If they are going to do anything with familiars, how about make them scale with your level in some way? As they are currently implemented, all of the familiars are nothing more than a permanent item slot used up in your inventory for a boost to your dude's HP. They aren't capable in combat and the penalty for it dying is pretty steep.
The only one worthwhile is Rabbit, I think. It had like 99% pickpocket value. Might have been another familiar and I'm too lazy to look it up right now, but I know at least one of them had a really high pickpocket value.
I see very limited value in just a handful of the familiars so it's worth going CG, LN/TN/CN and CE to pick them up. But only just. I simply wish there was more of an incentive to actually utilize them as units rather than simply leaving them in the pack.
BTW, in ToB, If my Chaotic Good character (mage, sorcerer, bard or thieve) cast Find Familiar spell, he obtain familiar with 24Hp + 12hp at yourself, Whilst other alignment characters obtain familiar with 48hp +24hp at yourself.
