Questions about Single Click Installers

Hi,

lots of questions :)

Does anyone know if someone ever made single click installers for Baldurs Gate EE / EET ?

What it is:
Its a Zip File you extract into a clean installation of the game.
SCI's do not contain any of the original game files, that would obviously be piracy, instead it contains the files and folder structure of a mod collection.
It would also have to contain a modified dialog.tlk (which is technically an original game file).

The community has produced many great quests over the years, but it is a bit of work to find them all, check compatibility, install correctly, fix issues and playtest. Playtesting and fixing a mega modded game can take about as long as a playthrough, longer even if done properly.

Advantages:
- install a Mega Modded Baldurs Gate EET or similar collection in a few minutes (unzip one file, ready to go)
- the build is playtested so everything works correctly, no game breaking bugs, no chrashes

Disadvantages
- an SCI is "frozen in time", one created in 2022 would obviously have mods up to that date,
but is not designed to add or update single mods during play
- no flexibility in mod selection, its a premade build
- only one language per SCI, no localization options

This of course would just be fan tribute with no commercial interest, in the spirit of fair use.
All mod authors named and credited for their work. No modification of their work, just assembly.
It's about showcasing all the great work by talented modders, for people who can't put in days of work to set it up themselves.

Is this legal?
Is this already available somewhere and i just can't find it?
Am I allowed to make one?

Short community answer: no. Currently, the community doesn't even react well to additional, not from the authors authorized mirror downloads for mods.
Why? One reason would be: modders are expected to help with bug reports. They update their mods accordingly to make them bug free. The last, really, really last thing a modder needs is waste time with bug reports from outdated mod versions, which such a compilaion would have. And the moment you add fixes to your compilation - is the moment you start modifying the mods' content, and make it an own thing, outside of the modders' influence.
Thus, in the IE modding community, this is usually not received well.

Yes, thats fair. I've seen some of those threads, after a month it turns out it was some homebrew version :#

Thank you for your answer :) !

P.S.: given another year or so, Project Infinity can probably do that with a few mouseclicks

PI will become simpler to use the more mods will be updated with the needed syntax so it 1. remembers the chosen components and 2. gives more warnings with regard to install order. These information needs to be included inside the mods (for a good reason), so it takes time until they will be updated.
