Multiple copies of the base game BG ee and BG 2 ee on one PC?

There has been a lot of great mods developed over the last two years and several patches as well. Both of my copies of BG ee have been modded to the hilt, but nothing in the last year as I'm too scared to mess with them.
Is it possible to simply download the BG games again and still keep my modded games?
Using the steam versions for both.

    Copy your modded game folder to another section of your computer, preferably not in C: and definitely not in C:Programs.
    Then you can refresh /redownload the game. And make another copy to elsewhere to mod it differently if you want.
    Works like a charm.
