How can I turn hostile npcs friendly ones

in Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition
I accidentally hit the merchant in the copper cornet now he won't even talk with me

    The closest you can come within normal gameplay is to charm the NPC in question. And luckily, Bernard doesn't have special charmed dialogue; if you talk to him while he's charmed, that should bring up his normal dialogue and the possibility of shopping. Of course, he'll still hate you when the charm wears off.

    I usually use dryads to help with charm. That works in the de arnise castle too.
