baldurs gate 1 multiplayer: Waiting for information from server STEAM

in Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition
my friend and i cant seem to connect to each other online sometimes as im hosting a multiplayer game and most of the time itll say: waiting for information from server and never let him connect on my password protected game, EVEN WITH THE RIGHT PASSWORD. any ideas yall?

    Do both of you have the same setup? BG:EE+SoD or BG:EE only? Same mods installed?

    yes and we have bg:ee only we dont have sod and no mods

    I'd advise using Hamachi then. It's anecdotal, but apparently can help for cases like this.

    I have played Diablo 2 with my brother multiplayer with Hamachi. Many years ago

    If it doesn't work I recommend play Diablo 2 as it can be quite fun
