Chess level with SCS

Not sure if this should be here or in the modding area.
First play through with SCS and have reached the chess level in Durlag's Tower. The moment I arrive all the enemies come charging across, seeming to ignore all the rules. Is that how it should work? Seems a bit overkill given I'm only on 'tactical' difficulty

It is a tough fight, but much easier with prot from lightning all around so you can maneuver the non-tanks without damage.
My solution with a 6 member party is scorched earth tactics with everyone throwing fireballs from one source or another. IIRC you get rid of most of the pawns and even some of the officers in one volley leaving the board in a much more manageable state.
Potion of insulation is a solution to a few problems in the game and this is a good place to use some as they give you a straight up immunity to lightning. You can also stack a protection scroll with a spell if you want to hold on to those potions into SOD or something.
Fundamentally, the main change SCS makes here is that the enemies become active and charge immediately, rather than waiting until you move forward and they see you.
I play vanilla and they charge there as well.
The pawns will charge after you hit them. Basicly giving you a king to kill everytime. I play Throne Of Bhaal solo, so im usually not able to prevent them from reaching over. But usually they come one at a time, and u get XP as there will be loads of kings to kill^^
And XP is nice, im currently not even done with durlags on my current playtrue, its next step though and im already at like 1,2mill fg and have 140k XP worth in stone to flesh scrolls.
A hugely satisfying amount of cheese and legit (no console cheating on XBox)
No, I explained what I did - there was no first round for them, combat was never initiated - you can attack Sarevok before combat is initiated (though the attack does initiate it) but that isn'the case in the Chess game (try it) Now I think more about it I got the pawns first, moved slightly forward then got the back row. This was on the XBox EE a few weeks ago - I'd be surprised if you couldn't do this on the PC.
OK, sorry.
