10 new slots near the bottom of the screen, what are they for?

Hi guys,
I've recently installed a fresh copy of BGEE long after playing my last game of the original BG. Along it some mods. And I've noticed there are suddenly 10 new slots near the bottom which I don't know where from and what for.
Can you please help me?

That's the quick-loot feature of the EE games. When items drop on the ground within range of your characters (typically when you kill an enemy), they show up in those boxes. If there are more than ten such items, scroll buttons also show up. Click on one of the boxes, and the selected character will pick that item up if they have room in their inventory. If you have multiple characters selected, the earliest character in party order is the one that picks up the item.

The red diamond button on the action bar shows or hides the quick-loot boxes; they default to hidden when the game starts, at least without mods.

@jmerry are you sure? As far as I know, it was always the selected party member, if all were selected, then the first party slot (leader).

... well, OK, I've never tested it with more than one but less than all selected. Let me get to that ...

Create a four-character party. Drop an item on the ground. Pick it up with various groups selected. In all tests, the character that picked up the item was the first among those selected, using the order of the sidebar portraits.

So yeah, my assumption there was correct. With the additional clarification that this is based on the marching order you can shuffle around, not the "player N" labels that only change when characters enter or leave the party.

Hmm... on Switch these slots don't appear. 😎
