Are there any true EET mods?

MaurvirMaurvir Member Posts: 1,093
I usually do a full trilogy run using EET every year (to give myself time to forget a bit), and I have incorporated some great mods in these runs every time. However, I've not seen a mod that integrates the entirety of the map and gives you new reasons to return to the north.

While I, like most EET players, return to gather stashed items, it would be cool to have quests take you back to the Friendly Arm Inn, Beregost, etc. Perhaps upgrade Thalantyr's shop or give Taerom a unique smithing ability, etc.

I will always play an EET build, but I was wondering if there were mods that did such things.

There are mods like IWD in EET or NWN in EET that add new areas to the EET map that you can't play integrated into the BG saga without EET. As for mods that make use of EET's ability to go back to old BG1 areas, I can think of only one. It's called Love Conquers all. LCA allows you to continue a romance with Corwin from SOD and wrap up the unfinished quest involving Skie from SOD. After SOA you return to Baldur's Gate city and do some questing and in TOB there is a quest to free "the shining lady" from Avernus where you left her in SOD.

I have, similar to Maurvir, also wondered about this, although I came from another thought process.

The first time I heard about EET was in regards to the Lichdom mod, which required EET (back then; since then it should work with BGIIEE too).

I have made a break for a while (next run through I am planning already, though), and during that time I came to the conclusion that we need something like EET indeed. I am not saying we need EET as such, but I was thinking of not only having all game parts as a unified game to be played, but to actually have the whole saga be "open ended" too.

Right now if you play, say, BG1 then BG2, you kind of defeat the end boss and ... that's it. The story of the Bhaalspawn is somewhat over. Wouldn't it be nicer if the game would be kept open? That is still playable afterwards? Could be a new party too, of course. (Simple storyline: the bhaalspawn became evil ... and has to be killed by another group of adventurers. Could even autogenerate or use bhaalspawn that regular players created, e. g. the solo-monk that played through all of BG)

Of course numerous things may have to be changed, and I am not saying this is easy, but I think it would be more elegant: kind of like a game world that could continue to tell epic tales (but also perhaps not so epic tales; not every party needs to be on Bhaalpower levels; many mods are, IMO, overpowered, so what is also missing is some team that could make regulations towards how strong or weak things are.)

So to come back to the original question:

    > I've not seen a mod that integrates the entirety of the map

I also have not seen one. I believe the full game map (the large one) has a bit of that open-ended feeling. Of course more mods may be necessary and this may be a bottle neck. Perhaps AI could autogenerate some parts here - not the main storyline as such or so, but smaller things, individual components, help in regards to area creation, map creation and such, autogenerate NPC skeletons, and so forth. Perhaps even an editor that helps create things (the wesnoth game has an editor that can be used for scenario creation, for instance).

    > it would be cool to have quests take you back to the Friendly Arm Inn, Beregost, etc. Perhaps upgrade Thalantyr's shop or give Taerom a unique smithing ability, etc.

I think so too. To be fair: the game already has many mods and add-ons, so there is a lot of content (though some needs tweaks and bug-fixes). I am not sure how easy it is for genuinely new and young people to create an add-on from scratch. It may probably be a bit too much work for them, unless they are motivated and dedicated to do so. When people get older, they tend to have less free time available usually.

Roxanne's Travellers in Faerun takes you back to various BG1 areas during SoA, but it's not very good.

Cowled Menace takes you back to BG city during SoA.

I would also recommend Love Conquers All as mentioned above.

Nice! Thanks for the tips. I already have The Cowled Menace installed, but I wasn't aware of Love Conquer's All.

Another one I forgot was "endless Baldur's Gate". This allows you to stay in Baldur's gate after defeating Serevok so that you can take up residence in the ducal palace. I usually do some of the EE character quests after defeating Serevok and then I go to the spine of the world and play Icewind dale before continuing into SOD. EET and endless Baldur's Gate make it possible to pick which campaign you play and at what point in the game you wish to play it.

@shevy123456 It seems like you should check out Classic Adventures. The concept of that mod was precisely to dissolve the BG game engine from the Bhaalspawn story.

They dont make you go back up north for most part but I think companion mods that go through all games are the best ones to connect them and be real eet.

Have only played some and read about others etc but to name a few off top of head
Romance mod, neera's stuff, Sirene, umm the collection recently finished - Skitia Npcs (though for before bg2 you need to grab the mods of them separately).
(there a few others though sadly as I am sure you are aware sadly, many end up stopping before they finished/made tob content).

Their also like 3 mods connected to the Keep ie Reunion or Jini/Rj if want harem+kids and I think there was another but I forget maybe just was 1 of the 2 romancing nalia mods I am thinking of or something.
