Going back to Sarevok battle later?

in Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition
I entered the temple in which Sarevok is, however I did not talk to him and therefore I have not started the battle yet, on my current save.
After I did leave the undercity and thieves guild maze and as of now I am continuing playing the game to prepare for the last battle because I get destroyed in seconds when I try to fight Sarevok.

My question is... Can I keep playing like this as long as I wan't without the game bugging and not letting me initiate the last battle because too long time passed or something?
