Is there a way to toggle on or off lethal damage?

I always hated chapter 7 so much in BG1 because of the fact that I can not kill any guards without losing rep. Is there any way to toggle on or off lethal damage instead of removing equiped weapons. It always takes time to remove and then arm my characters because I have several weapons in each of the characters slots. I could not find any answer to this on the internet.

I can’t answer your question, I suspect the answer is no.
But I would suggest the trick is to simply not engage them. There is absolutely no gain in fighting it out with guards. I go invisible on entering BG in Chapter 7 and stay that way unless I’m in the sewer or Ducal Palace.

The only way for a PC to deal nonlethal damage in these games is to unequip all weapons and punch the enemies. Monks need not apply. Also, enemy melee gets +4 to hit and damage against you while you're unarmed.

It's a whole lot easier to just completely avoid fights. Have a scout - either a thief/ranger under stealth or anyone under spell-based invisibility - go ahead and spot the patrols so you can go around. Slip through the sewers. And you just don't get caught.

The trickiest spot is the entrance to the Flaming Fist castle, if you're rescuing the duke. If you enter or exit the castle as a group while visible, you will be spotted by a patrol northeast of that entrance.

when you start chapter 7 and go back to BG the city, it is best to do this right away:
go to the iron throne and get sarevok's diary from the female mage on the top floor

    and

kill scythe and krystin in the undercellars area with all the pretty ladies and pick up the invitations and the assassination note

go to the duchal palace and prove sarevok is guilty

talk with either belt or jannath is it...? after the confrontation

and after that, all the hostile flaming fist will be gone and if you so desire you can finish the "flaming fist compound" quest to save duke eltan if you haven't already

    it can be both
Belt or Jannath depending if one of them died
! I didn't know you could save duke Eltan after duchal palace! That's pretty cool!

Make everyone invisible, cast haste and out-run them, use spells like sleep or Command...
