Jan Janssen quest line (possilbe spoilers)

FredNFredN Member Posts: 528
.....OK, I'll try to be as vague as possible, to avoid blatant spoilers, but I just finished Jan's side quest in SoA. Did anyone else find the resolution particularly unsatisfying? It feels really incomplete. And the entire thing has plotholes large enough to drive a semi through.
.....Who the heck is the Hidden, and why does he hang out in the sewers? How does he know about those yahoos in the Sea's Bounty? How does he heal Lissa at long range without ever even seeing her? Hell, how does Jan's dear old (and senile!) uncle even know all this stuff in the first place?? None of this is even vaguely explained.
.....And the ending? Lissa leaves Jan (again!) and wanders off into the sunset with her abusive husband. I figured there would at least be a part 2 where we have to rescue her again, but nooooo! Nothing of the sort happens, and the side quest comes to an abrupt ... and very incomplete feeling ... halt. What the heck were the writers thinking? Well, at least I got to whack the Hidden and put an end to his spying out Athkatla's weaknesses.

.....Mods are all well and good, but I'm playing out the game as designed ... finally using the latest upgrade! ... and this particular side quest seems pretty poorly written compared to most of the others. Let's look at another example. Anomen may be an insufferable, egotistical prig, but his quest, by comparison, is well done. His motivations are comprehensible, and there are even multiple possible outcomes.
.....Or take Dorn. Dorn's Bloody Path is a truly appalling quest, and not for the faint of heart. However, considering that he is acting on behalf of his (totally evil) patron, it makes perfect sense. Let's really stick it to those Radiant Heart Goody-Two-Shoes types! He even gets to make a choice at the conclusion whether or not to switch patrons. And he does get an appropriate reward at the end. Jan gets to .... watch his beloved Lissa wander off with her vile husband, possibly to be abused again in the future? Not a very comparable (or satisfying) ending.

It seems indeed to be a bit loosely ended. I guess Jan was not a main NPC, unlike e. g.
Hexxat. Dorn also seems to have had a priority; I like his ToB quest in particular. The
evil characters are kind of creepy - Dorn, Korgan ... Hexxat is almost normal compared
to these. Viconia is actually pretty nice in comparison too. The female NPCs in general
seem nicer than the male ones in the vanilla game.

Jan's quest is indeed small in comparison. Perhaps they did not feel as if Jan was important
    enough.

It’s a shitty minor quest/plot line for a great character.

Hexxat, Dorn, but also Rasaad and Neera are new NPC added in the EE edition. They were done by a new team which could focused on them.
