Doubts with companions

Hi.
I have a question... I'd like to play this game right away because I always start it and don't get past Coalition Camp because it makes me yawn 😅. But still want to complete it at least once. The thing is, I want to play it with a group entirely mine, not Neera, Dorn, that goblin, and so on, because I prefer to play my own characters and I'm not into romances or any of that mess. But I would like to do their quests. Is it feasible? I mean, temporarily putting them in my group to complete their quests and then kicking them out. That's what I did in BG, I wonder if I can do the same here.

It is sort of funny for me to say this. I think the NPCs had a *huge* amount of character and ambiance to the core games. But with few exceptions (Dynaheir!) I think the characters and story are the significant weak part of SoD. Some of the combat and encounter construction is brilliant, the art design is gorgeous.
Well, to be completely honest, I consider SoD an unnecessary addition to the series and I'll probably play it with a sense of disdain and boredom. I've had the game for years and it's been rotting, but I want to play it since I spent the money. 🤦🏻♂️
However, I did like the Black Pits.
I remember that.
