Bard kits for Support Charname - Unkitted vs Skald
I want to do a support-style Bard Charname and I'm doing a bit of research on the class, not having had much experience with it. I'm not too keen on a Blade as it's a bit too melee for my tastes. So, default Bard vs Skald.
Both seem fairly even, with the exception of their bard songs. Both get Enhanced Bard Song eventually. But is the default unkitted Bard Song better?
At level 20, it provides a +3 luck bonus and removes fear. Luck increases to-hit/damage rolls, but most intriguingly, it provides a large reduction in spell/elemental damage. An unsaved 20D8 Horrid Wilting will hit for an average of 42.5 damage, instead of 90, which is a huge reduction. Damage reduction should also apply to things like dragon breath attacks.
It has another advantage over the EBS in that it has unlimited range; but a disadvantage in that it doesn't affect summons.
The EBS provides some nice status immunities, AC/THAC0 bonuses, and a smattering of magic resistance, but some Bard items can cover these to some degree. For example, Methilid's Harp can remove stun/hold/paralysis, and Tangled Strings can remove confusion.
I'm really torn on which is better. Is +3 luck really worth all the goodies from EBS? I've read some compelling posts arguing either way.
Do any Bard aficionados have strong opinions on the matter?
