Icewind Dale EE's multiplayer doesn't work

in Troubleshooting
Me and my friend are trying to play Icewind Dale EE. Neither the original game nor HoW work. We tried the GOG version, the Steam version, Hamachi, tried local vs non-local, password, no password, different wifi networks. Nothing helped.
We always get the message - the game is waiting for info from the server.

What is it and how do we fixt it?

    make sure both of you have the same patch version and the same frame rates, if either of those do not match, then you cannot connect to one another

    Also, make sure to try under VPN in case there are regional/state restrictions etc

    Thank you for your answers.

    Unfortunately nothing of this worked. We made sure we have the same version, same frame rates, we used VPN, we used different wi-fi networks. We even tried doing it from Linux. Nothing helped.

    That's very strange cause we played it without any problems two years ago.
