I feel like people have forgotten some of the bugs that plagued the OLD BG's. Heck, even BG2... remember the "X has nothing to say to you" showstopper? Only the final patch fixed that one. We've had the game for what, just under a week? At least they know how to solve the most egregious of the bugs, even though it's going to mean a great deal of work on their end, work that ultimately won't lead to a straight-up increase in income, and may actually delay BG2:EE (which WILL.) Of course, I'd like to think they'll now develop BG2:EE with a DirectX shell, but a solution WILL come out. I'm sure of it.

After reading some of the comments above about the Open GL issue, I guess I'm going to see about buying a new graphics card for my computer that the game crashes. And possibly a new CPU. (The computer is several years old anyway.)

I have another computer that uses an ATI Radeon HD 4600 card on which the game runs great. So I guess I'll go with ATI again for a replacement graphics card. If you all can recommend a good card that will be appreciated.

For the computer that crashes, it has

Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E4500 @ 2.20 GHz (specs)
    NVIDIA GEForce 8600 GT (specs)

If I want to play BG:EE on the crashing rig, is it recommended that I replace the CPU as well?

If they'd had to write both a DirectX version for windows and OpenGL for every other platform it would have taken much, much longer to make.
This isn't the only game people with the specific (lousy) intel graphics processors can't handle.
There's a whole host of games that doesn't work. openGL is not a new thing, it's been around for years, and I have had several games that needs it.

It's absolutely standard for graphics card manufacturers to make drivers that supports OpenGL, and this is on Intel and no one else.

Just do a google search on the issue, and you'll see how many other games have problems with those particular chips.

Even running a game under DirectX, the Intel Chip in question is slow and have badly designed drivers.
Not Beamdog's fault that a Intel sells a lousy product.

Perhaps customers should simply have been forewarned about the issue.

I did buy it. But when I buy something I want it to work.
Trent and the guys sold something that wasn't ready for the market.

Could you imagine what the game looked like 2 months ago (original release)? Could you imagine the wailing and gnashing of teeth if they delayed it to 2013?

Let's just say that I prefer it Blizzard-style.
