So Kagain left...

I was apparently too slow in finding his non-existent caravan quest. ;)

Is there anywhere you can find him after that? Or is he gone for good?

He left me too. Luckily I had a quicksave right before he left, so I stripped him of all those +1 axes I had him use.

Hey, if you wanna leave, fine. Good luck getting back to Beregost with little more than your shirt, dude.

Hmm... maybe I'm NOT Lawful Good...

As I understand it, anyone who leaves your party "in a huff" disappears forever (probably through a random portal to the City of Doors). Something I wish wasn't the case, to be perfectly honest, but that's how it's always been...

Good riddance, I say. Let's see how Kagain deals with the dusties. I give him 2 hours before he becomes a deader.

Yeah, they usually leave for good.....kind of strange that happened though since all you do to complete his quest is leave beregost from the north and go to the next zone up, and he just says screw it, I'll just chill with you guys.

The same happened to me. This must be a bug in the system.

^ that. The area between Beregost and the Friendly Arm Inn... at the south end of the map there's a caravan. Just bring him near there, he'll stay with you.

Thats not true. I had Montaron and Xzar in the party and left / fired them in the Friendly Arms inn. A couple of hours and adventures later, i returned to the Friendly Arms and there they are still...

Or do you mean NPC that leave the party on their own disappear?

I know the answer to this question! The place you are supposed to go is one map North of Beregost where you first meet Elminster. If you go here he will immediately proclaim that he is giving up on his caravan finding quest and will now do whatever you want him to do thus ending his "quest". This is no bug as it has been like this since the original.
@Beastman If characters got unhappy with your party policy (start whining and complaining) and you boot them and go back to pick them up they will say they don't like you and go poof forever. This can also happen if they are removed from the party in certain other ways (being petrified for instance) and you ask them to come back. (These comments are based on experience from the original BG1 and may not necessarily apply to EE.)

Lmao @ people having trouble with that quest. Sorry, it's too funny.

There have been some reports of the quest not completing properly--despite the dialogue firing, Kagain still left afterwards. Doesn't sound like that's what happened here, though.

I actually preempted him by exploring the whole map before taking him. He gave up the second we arrived in the area.

    Are we sure he's Lawful?
