Kagain´s quest (from UB)

in Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition
Is it possible to return Entar´s fibula to his mother for 3000 experience even if I never spoke to Kagain and hadn´t him in party?

    As far as I know Kagain doesn't have to be with you. He doesn't have any dialogue when you get to the Silvershield Estate. I think the key to the quest is just having the fibula in your possession. Mind you, I haven't tried this (Kagain is one of my favourite characters so I generally have him in my party).
