Is it possible to protect yourself from beholders' petrification rays?

As the title asks. Thanks.

Unfortunately, no. Protection from Petrification doesn't exist. It's basically a save or die that you can't get out of. This was more or less an oversight and it makes petrification one of the worst status effects to have to deal with in NWN.

If you don't mind meddling with the game options, you can improve your chances by going into the nwnplayer.ini file, and under "Server Options" there should be a variable that says something like "Saving Throw Automatic Failure on 1" if you set that to "=0" , that is, negate it, your chances improve with your buffs and everything.

In the rules the game is using, a natural 1 is always a failed saving throw, no matter how high the modifiers from your skills and buffs are. So if you need 20 to save and have saving throws improved by +22, you'll still fail if you roll a 1. That can be frustrating and some people find it illogical that chance outrules high skills, so some people disable that function.

At least it used to work, I'm not sure if it still does after the latest update.

You can create an item with spell immunity (Gaze Petrification or Breath Petrification, etc)

Personally, I find it understandable that chance sometimes outrules high skills. Thank you anyway.

    How? Through Craft Armor?

While that might be possible (not so sure about that without using haks/override) these spells are not using the function that handles the immunity and therefore it will have no effect at all.
