So, playing IWD EE for yet another time but you lack an evil cleric option? Looking for some Tiax-like portion of insanity? It looks like T'viy is your man.

The mod adds a brand new, one-weekend companion to Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition. His name is T'viy. He's a chaotic evil gnome, a little bit insane follower of Urdlen, The Crawler Below. This mod is more like a weekend project, so while he has dialogues with the PC, the friendship path is shorter than that of most other IWD NPCs. However, it's still an option for all those teams that need an evil cleric... and some insanity.

The kit, additional animations and some of the spells were created by @AionZ
Enjoy!

    Wow this is brilliant news!

@ilduderino - thank you! That is my last IWD EE NPC mod (at least for now... I feel satisfied with my stuff, maybe one day I will need to deal with some irresistable idea, but for now, I am quite happy with my bunch of companions)

BTW, new version of IWD Crossmod Banter Pack already includes banters for T'viy!

Shame there are no more on the horizon but we have already been spoiled

@ilduderino - who knows, maybe someone will release something else for IWD EE. The game REALLY needs some quests that could be enjoyed between parts of the main plot...

That's really nice of you! Well, we do our best to release interesting stuff... and there are also some amazing people who help us, like proofreaders. I can't release anything without them, hah. @Brokenkatana helped with this one and crossmod talks between T'viy and other NPCs.

Version 1.1 available. Thanks to Raduziel for help and suggestions. You may expect T'viy to become compatible with DoF quite soon!

@megamike15 - Try now, I've just been updating the mod. There is a chance you tried to download it the very same moment.
Version 1.2 includes a fix for some crossmod problems!

...Our Lady Dreamless should get a new version in few minutes, too.

Sorry to up an old message, but I just wanted to check if T'viy is now compatible with DoF ? Or should we choose between the two mods for an install ?
  • LavaDelVortelLavaDelVortel Member Posts: 3,129
I *think* they are, even if he's not included, installing DoF shouldn't cause bugs, he will just get a bit different mix of spells, but it's not game-breaking :)

I thought I would mention that T'viy dies every time the party enters the Dwarven Halls of Upper Dorn's Deep (i.e., the area with the drow, etc.). Even if the party goes to town and resurrects him, he dies the very next time he returns to the region.
I assume that this is not intended (i.e., there's not a story reason for this to happen)?

That's really weird. I am unsure what may be going on as there is no script in this mod that would auto-kill him for any reason. Are his stats drained for some reason? Is there any damage information? I may need more information because I don't even know how to look. Have you ever played with the character before and experienced anything like that in that area?
  • TrouveurTrouveur Member Posts: 1,025
Did you also installed SCS or ToF ? It reminds me of a bug report I read on G3.

No stats drained or damage. I've used T'viy before, but he attacked me in Dragon's Eye and so did not get to this location.

I do have SCS installed. It looks like it's a bug with SCS (which affects the 4th character to join the party):
    https://www.gibberlings3.net/forums/topic/37878-v3510iwdee-character-dies-when-entering-second-level-of-dorns-deep/

It also looks like it's been fixed in the most recent version of SCS (I guess I was using one from a few months ago).

So I noticed that T'viy is unable to use Cleric scrolls (e.g., Chant, Find Traps, etc.) - Is this intentional?

I installed several components of Talents of Faerun that affect Clerics, so I it's very possible they are impacting.

It's his intelligence. I think there may be moles that are more intelligent than he is!

Thanks Lava! I actually like this "hidden" disadvantage, as Blind and Blind Destruction are pretty powerful.

Really enjoying him in an all-evil party.

    "Be blind!"

It’s been a while since I last played with this little fellow, but I’d still like to share a few thoughts — hopefully encouraging others to pick him up in their next playthrough.

T’viy is a cleric and a follower of the evil god Urdlen. Before playing, I had no idea who Urdlen even was — and that’s the first major strength of this character. Throughout the journey, T’viy attempts to explain the foundations of his religious philosophy and what drives him. If you’re into Forgotten Realms lore, it’s a real treat, as you get plenty of insight into the Crawler Below. That said, he’s not a walking encyclopedia — he won’t stop you every two minutes to bombard you with god-specific trivia.

As for his personality — well, he’s quite unhinged. Digging is his favorite activity, and if I had to compare him to someone, he reminds me of Tiax. Conversations with him mostly revolve around trying to make sense of his very obvious madness. They’re also genuinely funny — I had quite a few laughs while reading (and translating) them. In a way, T’viy seems to serve as subtle comic relief, though I’m not entirely sure whether the author, our dear @LavaDelVortel, would agree. That’s just the impression I got.

From a technical standpoint, T’viy is clearly designed with melee combat in mind. He comes equipped with two claws that can be upgraded later in the game. He also has a (possibly hidden?) quest that allows him to absorb valuable gems to gain power. On top of that, he features his own unique kit and a set of new abilities to experiment with (including transformations, if I remember correctly).

Overall, he’s a very solid — rock-solid, even — companion and a great addition to IWD.

Yes, I would call this one a comic relief and I had someone like Tiax in mind when I was creating this one. The problem with writing that kind of characters is fun for a while, but I always feel less connected to them. Probably knows that what works best for me are love and tragic stories, but that's an entirely different story. I suppose those that seek fun and madness may still like T'viy.

    Cheers!
