A new bunch has joined Weasel Mods -- you can now download companions that shall join you during the Siege of Dragonspear DLC. You can download them separately, but these companions aren't that big, thus I've decided to make them a collective subforum.

Sir Arkanis - Arkanis, a member of the Candlekeep team and a dwarf Watcher, returns as a possible companion for the Siege of Dragonspear official DLC. He has received a promotion, and is now a paladin. The character comes with friendship talks, interjections, banters, and a possible romance with non-evil characters (gender and statistics do not matter, but you need to give him a sign or hint at least twice during the friendship path to make him notice your interest). He may join the group right after you leave Baldur's Gate (Coast Way Crossing area).

Eldoth - Eldoth Kron is back for the Siege of Dragonspear official DLC. He's still as nasty as he used to be. The character comes with a small quest, some timed talks, interjections, and a few banters with other companions. Know, however, that he is just as repelling as in the original game. Truth be told, even I don't like him, and I made this mod, so... if you want to make him come with you, perhaps ask yourself if you really like surrounding yourself with manipulative charlatans.

Faldorn - Faldorn returns as a possible companion for the Siege of Dragonspear official DLC. She may now be encountered in Baldur's Gate, near the Iron Throne building. Convince her she should join your group, and you will be able to keep her for the whole DLC. She comes with a few timed talks, interjections, banters, a small quest, and a few quasi-romantic talks that serve as somewhat of an introduction to the BG2EE mod that is also available on the Weasel Mods website (requirements: any gender, any chaotic alignment, 13+ strength, 11+ constitution).

Mother Lost - The mod adds a new companion for the Siege of Dragonspear official DLC -- she calls herself Mother Lost, but in time you may uncover her true name. The character may join you late in the DLC, next to the Fugue Plane portal; some may therefore consider her more of a temporary character. She is looking for another character you, the Child of Bhaal, are destined to face. The character is an undead fighter and comes with only a few talks/comments. To enjoy the character more, I suggest playing IWD and IWD2 first, as the character refers to events from both games, and this mod was created to bring the two series even closer together. Be aware, it contains spoilers for both campaigns.

Remember, these are their v1.0 thus they haven't been widely tested. Their content however, is in their final shape; I won't be adding more content to them. These were mostly created for the sake of replayability and new team compositions. These are rather small mods, but they should still bring some additional fun to SoD.

    Amazing !
Thank you, now I'm eager to try a party with Eldoth and Faldorn.

Sure! Enjoy! All these characters are a bit different, so I hope everyone will find something for themselves. While Mother Lost is the smallest one (she joins quite late), she also allows IWD fans to get this new kind of interaction and add a conclusion to a very old personal story.

    Great job man!

Btw does Faldorn get during installation the option to choose her hoter BG2 portrait or only the BG1 one?
  • LavaDelVortelLavaDelVortel Member Posts: 3,126
I'm using her BG1 portrait here; the BG2 portrait was made to work better with the BG2's portrait style. No one is stopping you from editing the character, though.

She is also a normal druid here; her kit isn't part of this mod, as story-wise, it is later on that she radicalized herself even more. In SoD she is somewhat between being her previous self, and the BG2 version of her.

Great surprise Lava! Congrats on the release.

Just one question, do Faldorn and Eldoth use the same cre files as the original characters? So that the mods recognize if players changed something regarding stats, classes, kits etc.?
  • LavaDelVortelLavaDelVortel Member Posts: 3,126
If you played with them, then yes. If it's a SoD-only run, then no. I use the same method as other characters that are both on the base game and SoD. That does not apply to Arkanis, as he joins only in the prologue and changed quite a bit, and Mother Lost who has no appearance in the original BG1 campaign

Nah, do not expect much from him :) I mean, he is in BG2 -- in The Cost of One Girl's Soul :D And you may kill him there :P I don't think it's much of a spoiler, the mod has been available for a couple of years already.

I wanted to have a bard in SoD, and even if someone would like to ask Voghiln to join the group, that way you can have someone who has the same class as him, and just swap them later on.

Eldoth is a horrible person, and I feel somewhat horrible that I added him, heh, but I wanted to have at least 2 more people of the original cast to become available in Siege. That also allows to let Eldoth and Skie to quarrel a bit more in SoD, and show that she's no longer under his influence and she's not falling for him and his lies ever again.

Since the cre files are the same, will the mod work in an EET run for continuity for Eldoth and Faldorn between their BG1 versions and your BG2 mods?
  • LavaDelVortelLavaDelVortel Member Posts: 3,126
No. The continuity is between BG1EE and SoD, not BG2EE, and that is not going to change. SoD happens basically right after BG1EE, and Faldorn BG2EE happens a bit later, she radicalized herself meantime, has a new kit, new personal item(s), and she's better at shapechanging.

Furthermore, as I said many times, I do not use EET, and I dislike the idea, because I'm not a fan of BG1 campaign and I would rather skip it most of the time.

What a pleasant surprise! Thanks! B)
Do the new companions banter with each other?
  • LavaDelVortelLavaDelVortel Member Posts: 3,126
Banters are short and simple, usually like 3-liners, but yes, they do notice each other. I prefer short banters like that in SoD, as without full voicing SoD-style banters aren't that great. Even though I think they have some sort of charm.

Okay, I’ve just finished a SoD playthrough with these companions, and I’d like to share some thoughts (without spoilers):

    1) Arkanis – This is one of Lava’s ideas that completely took me by surprise. Who would have thought of bringing back such a minor character from Candlekeep? Arkanis is one of those fellows who fits perfectly into a party of decent people, representing high moral standards. His dialogues are quite rich and mainly revolve around references to Candlekeep, so knowing characters like Dreppin, Hull, etc., is valuable. When it comes to his personality and features, Arkanis is a true companion with whom we can form a meaningful bond throughout the journey. From a technical standpoint, his stat spread reminds me of Kagain, which means he can easily function as the team’s main tank. Overall, he’s a great character who seamlessly fits into the BG universe.

    2) Eldoth – The evil bard is back with a vengeance and makes a great fit for an evil party. Once again, Lava shows he has a knack for writing morally dubious characters. As with all of the author’s mods, we’re given complete freedom in how we interact with Eldoth — we can either agree with and support his viewpoints or be utterly critical of them. I’m amazed at how well he’s written. Keep in mind that Lava only had a soundset and a bio to work with, and yet Eldoth turns out exactly how I would imagine him: an opportunistic evil bard bent on gaining fame, gold, and women. He comes with a rather humorous quest and great banters with Black Isle/BioWare NPCs. As a bard, he quickly gains access to Stoneskin, so with Mirror Image and Blur he can handle tanking quite effectively. He isn’t as versatile as Voghiln, but he still performs his role very well. What else is there to say? Lava deserves special praise for bringing Eldoth back because, as he admits, he doesn’t even like the character — so I can imagine working on him might have been a bit painful.

    3) Faldorn – One of those obscure characters; some people aren’t even aware that she’s a recruitable companion. I’ve always been fascinated by the evil sect of Shadow Druids, and with Faldorn we get a glimpse into their philosophy. Adventurers, you need to understand that Faldorn is a truly wild woman who doesn’t give a damn about cities, civilization, and the like. She’s definitely one of my favorite companions (I’ve always been shocked by how she was handled in BG2), and I’m glad I was given the opportunity to get to know her and her motivations better. From a technical standpoint, she’s a pure druid, fulfilling the role of an offensive caster — especially deadly against enemy mages (those blasted bugs!).

    4) Mother Lost – This character is Lava’s attempt to make the bridge between BG and IWD even more solid. Out of all the characters presented, she definitely has the least content — but that doesn’t mean you should omit her. She’s a vengeful spirit seeking those responsible for her ghostly state. To fully enjoy her character, you need to be familiar with the main plot points of IWD/IWD2, so keep that in mind. Technically, she’s very solid and, praise be to Lava, she has a +3 weapon at her disposal, which makes the battle with Belhifet much easier.

One last thing before I wrap this up — I’m not much of a SoD enjoyer. Playing through this expansion is a real chore for me. I won’t go into detail about my issues with SoD, but if not for Lava’s work, I would have simply imported my character straight into BG2.

These characters are so much fun that I’ll definitely provide a Polish translation somewhere down the line.

Lava, my friend — thank you for putting out such wonderful content! ❤️

Thank you! That's very nice of you! I haven't expected a review :) But I am mostly glad you had fun!

Has anyone tried Mother Lost without playing IWD? I'm curious if one can appreciate the npc even without knowing anything about IWD at all.
  • norQnorQ Member Posts: 10
I firmly believe one can enjoy her - at one point it is thoroughly explained who she really is.

However, you should bear in mind it will spoil the plots of both IWD games so if you haven't played them, I would do so first. On the other hand, if you know you won't be playing these titles then there should be no issue whatsoever.
