Not really a fan of the vanilla portraits of minsc in the bgee games so I am wondering...
Does anyone have a "better" portrait? One where he looks a little less... I dunno, boring?
EDIT: Also I wouldnt mind suggestions for Dynaheir as well...

I got bored one day, and used BGPyrtraits to convert lots of fantasy art, almost exclusively female, so if anyone wants something particular in that regard, odds are I have it.
or, for something different:
:
These are all wonderful - the third one seems the most Baldur's Gate like of the three in terms of style I think? These ones just look like rogues to me, not Witches. Thanks though.
@lolien created a "lore-correct" Dynaheir with her hathran mask.
As for Minsc its so hard to find a "good" picture for him. In my head Minsc is loud, bombastic, and endlessly cheerful (bordering on the psychotic) and the vanilla picture I feel doesn't reflect that, and sadly neither does that "lore correct" version because it keeps the thing about the picture I don't like which is that he looks sombre.
Well how about this Minsc? Needs much cropping and scaling, but very dynamic. Very proud. Very Boo.
This is a very belated post, but it might still be of interest to a few people who happen to stop by here again. With the help of various AI tools, I’m creating realistic-style portraits for a personal BG1/2 mod that will surely take a few more years to complete. Of course, this includes the companions as well. Since AI has made truly tremendous strides in recent years, the portraits are slowly starting to look almost professional. I’m attaching a few large-format examples, including ones for Dynaheir (current) and Minsc (older). The images may be freely used or modified. More images can be found at https://civitai.com/user/civitaiandrea07.
I’m not sure which renderer you used? But it should be pretty easy to add Minsc’s distinct purple face tattoo with a reference image input. And I think I would have added a few years to Dyna.
But I do like the vivid realism and you were thoughtful about the backgrounds. Very nice.
First of all, thank you very much for the compliment. I use various AI models as tools and a combination of techniques: text-to-image, image-to-image, inpainting, and image-editing programs like GIMP. Lately, I’ve been using Nano Banana and ChatGPT more and more as AI models, since they now allow me to modify images step by step without needing inpainting or similar techniques.
I’m attaching the portrait of Dynaheir, aged by 10 years, once again. In ChatGPT, this is now just a simple command: “Leave the image unchanged, but make the sorceress look 10 years older.”
As for the tattoos:
I intentionally left out Minsc's face tattoo because I simply don't like all those tattoos—not on Minsc, not on Aerie, and not on the other companions either. But for the next version of Minsc, I'll try to draw a version with a tattoo.
I’m not a huge tattoo fan either, but it’s such a signature look for Minsc and Aerie. And I’ve liked since GPT 2.0 it can actually do them faithfully and consistently to the source material.
Although my version of Imoen is a little less pink!

I’ve been doing an illustrated run through here.
We obviously have very similar tastes when it comes to the images—I really like yours, at least.
I’ve now created two new versions of Minsc—one without a tattoo and one with— the latter especially for you and people like you. His facial expression is a bit serious, though, since Minsc is pretty desperate in Nashkell because Dynaheir has been kidnapped. Other than that, my Minsc is pretty similar to yours. Well, my Boo is a bit bigger too, as he's a giant spacehamster ...

I’ve been playing with the illustrated runs for a couple years now. Now doubt the tools keep getting better. More precise, more *stable*. Even the video renders. And there was another huge leap forward at OpenArt right about the time this current run got to the end of BG1.
I will look forward to seeing more of your interpretation of things!
And I'll keep an eye on your awesome creations. However, I won't be posting any more pictures in this thread—I'll post them under “Custom PC & NPC Portraits” instead. That's just a better place for pictures of other characters.
