Kivan pimpin' alone with all them ladies eh? ;-p

I like many different party combos. Throughout the years the NPC's that have seen the most playtime are probably Coran, Kivan, and good ol' Imoen. I plan on mixing it up alot on my first BGEE playthrough and go with some of those lategame NPC's (Tiax, Alora, maybe Skie if I can stand the whining etc), ofc I'll also save a spot for mystery party member X! (who looks like an evil cleric to me)

I used to play in the following manner:

    1. Set the difficulty to very hard.
    2. Don't load the game unless the main character is killed (regular party member death doesn't cause the game load).
    3. Pick up each NPC you meet - average one will stay alive for about 3 or 4 missions (mission - game period from party rest till the last party member spell used).

This allows you to try every NPC in the game, but the main character should be tough enough to handle last chapters almost alone...

After many playthroughs with actual NPCs, I've developed a liking for custom "multiplayer" parties. More for the sake of role-playing assorted groups (DnD campaign parties, me and my friends, ridiculous combos, &c), rather than making "god" parties. Although, those are fun here and there, too.

    I honestly didn't notice that before... :P

I intend on mixing it up this time too. I think it's easy to get stuck in the same old rut with party formula (or, as the game progresses you get attached to the characters who have been with you the longest) so you don't tend to experiment with the different combinations you can have. Tbh, I have never used any of the characters you find in the last chapter..! So yeah, mixing it up this time is the way to go :)

You let characters DIE?? D: I always felt so guilty that I reloaded immediately :P

I usually play solo, for the challenge of it (which admittedly most of the time gets easier since you level up waaaay faster)

People that were introduced in a party most of the times were though : Imoen, Minsc, Xzar, Yeslick and Quayle.
Don't ask what happened to Monty and Dynaheir XD

    My evil team :

    Charname (Fighter/Mage Elf)
    Xzar
    Edwin
    Kagain
    Montaron
Branwen (I dont play Viconia because of her magical res in BG1)

sometimes I picked up Eldoth instead of one of my mage

But this group kicks ass !

Me Kagain and Imoen, rest depends on my mood. I love this dwarf. Stereotypes are not always bad. A NPC mod for Kagain would be amazing. Could result in real good beef between Korgan and Kagain.

I've only ever played Baldur's Gate 2, but early on in the game, I had something like this:
    Me
    Minsc
    Jaheria
    Aerie
    Nalia
    Yoshimo

Though I changed it around rather often

Since I've been through BG many many times and every time with a different type of character, the party around Charname has always been a bit different from the previous playthrough. The party members complementing the skills the current main character does not have.
Other than that I too must confess quilty of favoring certain NPC's throughout all the times the game's been played.

But as an example with a fighter/paladin/melee ranger:

    Ajantis
    Minsc
    Kivan
    Edwin
    Coran

I don't know why but I must always have 3 melee characters, 1 archer(in this case two!), thief and a mage in the party! ;P

I know I'm missing a healer but hey, that's what potions are for! =), besides with this combo, there's no need for healing!

I'm currently playing through an unmodded Baldur's Gate 1. I intend to run an evil game but right now I've got myself (male human, Fighter 2, dual-classed into conjurer)
    Khalid (will replace with Kagain)
Jaheira (havn't figured out who to replace her with)
    Montranon
    Xzar
    Viconia

You can't dual-class into a specialist wizard in BG2 so I'm checking to see what will happen when I bring in one from BG1.

For pure flavour rather than abilities:

    Xzar
    Xan
    Tiax
    Skie
    Edwin

For me Edwin is a must. I just love his rants: "'Edwin do this,' 'Edwin do that,' somebody get this jerk a banana!"
Yeah ... that guy is pure entertainment! ... 'Please don't disturb me while I'm plotting to overthrow you.' ... simply hilarious :-)

Apart from that I can just say that Minsc and Jahaira (until I threw her out in BG2 because she had some 'problems' with my beloved Aerie^^ ) were part of my team most of the time.

    Me - Fighter or thief?
    Kagain
    Viconia
    Edwin

Always wanted to play an evil party, and Edwin and viconia seems to have skills that are way better then their good counterparts.

and then... Edwin and one other I guess. Minsc, maybe (Dynaheir will have an accident).

Also made a multiplayer party of 6 Wild Mages for my latest run of BG2. Had a story for them too - CHARNAME started learning wild magic at a very early age, and one of his many mishaps split him into 6 pieces (non-identical, with some small differences between each; add in the many years since and they've diverged a fair bit, though they still hold many similarities).
Fun times. It was pretty effective, too. When I wasn't surging away my money...

    My ideal party:

    Me (Mage/Thief, Half-Elf)
    Imoen
    Minsc (and Boo!)
Dynaheir (replaced by Aerie in BG2 and romanced by CHARNAME)
    Yeslick
    Xan
...and Sarevok as an extra member in Throne of Bhaal, but I would like to retain my party. It's too bad you you basically built up a character for a whole game and then ditch them in TOB. I doubt BG2EE TOB will allow that though since I think the 6-character limit is hard-coded, but if it would make an exception just for Sarevok, that would be amazing!

I also like Alora from BG1. She cracks me up!

    Baldurs gate 1
    Me (thief, half elf)
    Imoen
    Minsc
    Dynaheir
    Khalid
    Jaheira

    Baldurs gate 2
    Me (thief, half elf)
    Minsc
    Aerie
    Anomen
    Viconia(until Imoen comes back)
Keldorn (until he goes back to his wife then Valygar, then Sarevok)

I always go with the characters i like instead of trying to balance out my party

All this Baldur's Gating around this site made me thirsty of another run. Been studying the characters quite a bit on my party layout and decided to go with a (almost) completely evil run consisting of :

    Xzar
    Montaron
    Kagain
    Branwen
    Edwin

Question is now - I am a bit low on the healing department, but I'd like to role play something different.
What do you think my PC should be?

    Perfect Party?

1.) Captain Biff the Understudy - Jack of one trade and a master of none.
2.) Lieutenant Canderous - Goodly healer of absolutely zero renown.
3.) Officer Cadet Mulahey - Hit his head on a mining cart and joined Biff to rid the world of mining carts.
4.) Sergeant Thalantyr - Immensely powerful mage, often sandwiched betwixt two naked flesh golems.
5.) Corporal Melicamp - Immensely powerful chicken, often transmogrified into a human of little use.
6.) Private Silke Thespian Extraordinaire - Can instantly kill level 1 protagonists with her Quarterstaff +1

Alternatively sub out 4 for Warrant Officer Firebead Elvenhair if flesh golem orgies aren't your cup of tea.

Me. Bard blade?....high lore, good special abilities, backup spell caster
    Imoen?...thief/mage
Kagan ... He is a complete murderer with an axe, plus he regenerates
Viconia?...best priest in the realms, with extra wisdom
    Edwin....best mage
Jaheira.... Powerful high level Druid spells and blip healer
    ............
This power party works for neutral Alligned players.
Perhaps for the ethically challenged allignments may be an issue, but at higher levels it is unbeatable.

For more good Alligned parties, swap in jan, keldorn, and Sexy ill mazzy

Oh yea, bards can be fun in BG1 , even without the extra special class kits. Though they are More challenging, especially with no elven armor.
