"By Chauntea!" Marl bursts out. "Why couldn't he just stay home?!"

Abdel shrugs. "The Realms call, and you go. He sounds a fine lad taken too soon, but doing what he was meant." He paused, feeling a real kinship with this drunken and obviously grieving man, "If you'll suffer my company, I'll buy a round and toast his memory with you."

Tears began to streak Marl's face, but he was no longer angry, and seemed somehow... calmer. "'Twould be fitting, I suppose." He retrieves a full mug from the barkeep and hoists it high. "To Kennair Nethalin! Rest... rest ye well." He pauses and turns away, his face gone slack, his eyes dull. "I... I would be alone awhile," he muttered as he walked off.

The man who had been egging him on turns to Abdel. "Well, that be the calmest I done seen him in a week. Still, best to move along right quickly. Marl's not known for his steady moods."

Abdel nodded, feeling as if he'd learned something from the encounter. (Experience, yay!) Imoen was already negotiating with the Bartender for a room, and knowing Imoen, she'd sprung for the most expensive so that she could take another long bath...

Imoen, wearing her normal carefree grin, dances gracefully up the stairs to lead them to the room she just hired. But what first meet them once they reach the second floor is a common room, bustling with the inn's more wealthy guests.
Imoen's eyes begin to gleam as she studies all the wealthy people and a rather heavy man with colorful clothes soon gets her full attention. Before Abdel -who knows Imoen far too well to think her intentions to be innocent- is able to grab her, she leaps into the room and head straight for the heavy man. "Don't wait up!" She calls over her shoulder and laughs easily at their expressions.
"Oh my, that's a beautiful cloak, sir..." They hear her say as they resignedly leave to find their room.

A few hours later, when all but a slightly worried Abdel is fast asleep, Imoen returns with a gleaming cloak hanging over her arm and pockets which seems to be bursting to their limits with valuables. Abdel sighs. "We'll be leaving really early tomorrow then, I take it."

Very early the next morning the party made ready to depart. Muttering a few hurried words of farewell to the Innkeeper the party left. Mr and mrs Jaheira seemed to be eager to depart, wishing to get to Nashel as soon as possible to investigate the troubles there. However, just as they were making their way to the edge of town a man with a lute on his back, and the most cheesy wink imaginable directed towards Imoen, introduced himself: "Greetings mighty adventurers! I am Garrick, might I entice you with a lucrative and uncomplicated affair?"

OOC: Some nice writing there @JosefineS and @LadyRhian!

Imoen, dressed in her newly attained cloak, dashes forward to speak to the handsome stranger. But one stern look from Jaheira sustains her for the moment, this morning's scolding for last night's events apperently still in fresh memory.

Jaheira turns to the dashing stranger with an unimpressed eyebrow arched. "We are not for hire as mercenaries, boy." She snorts.
The smile from the young man's face fades. "But please, hear me out dear lady! My mistress is in grave danger from men who wishes her harm! Surely that is a cause anyone with a noble heart would sympathize with?" And with a glance to the groups' still scorched outfits, he adds "And she pays handsomely for protection as well, my dear lords and ladies. 300 goldpieces is the offer, what do you say?"
"Jahe-he-hera, m-m-my dear, surely it would n-n-n-not hurt to meet with this p-p-poor woman?" Khalid carefully states with a wary glance at Jaheira's grim expression.
"Oh, all right! She snaps. "But then we WILL make haste to Nashkel. The mayor awaits us Khalid."

The young man brighten instantly and hurries forward to offer his arm for escort to Imoen. "Might I inquire what name belongs to such a lovely face, m'lady?" He asks with a bright smile at Imoen and she manages to Abdel's amazement say her name, wave her eaylashes and giggle sweetley at the same time.
"Ah, a beautiful name for a beutiful girl." He states. "This way good folks!" He continues as they start to walk.

As they follow Garrick and Imoen, Abdel feel an increased dislike towards this stranger to whom Imoen is clinging.

OOC: @Aristillius : Why, thank you! And likewise ;)

Imoen, wearing a new and rather beautiful cloak VERY similar to the one she'd been admiring on the heavyset man the night before, is still prancing about and preening. Well-rested, bathed and with a new -ahem- acquisition, she smiled sunnily at Garrick. "We are always interested in lucrative affairs," she informs him with a smile so bright that it seems to dim the sunlight. "Do tell us about it!"

"Well, follow me and I will tell you on the way" Garrick says, unable to take his eyes off Imoen. "My employer Skie is soon to be attacked by some evil men...". Abdel watches closely Garrick as his words fumble.. And he seems to be unaware of anything else in the word but Imoen and her dazzling cloak. "Vut, actually we were going to use you as unwitting parts in a ploy" he says, as if unaware of admitting to the fraud.

OOC: I've never actually pickpocketed this cloak, but it charms and adds CHA right? Ill change my post if not.

OOC: @Aristillius Yes it adds charisma and you can charm person once a day.
Here's he ingame description: "Algernon's cloak is imbued with magical properties such that the wearer will seem to shine with an inner glow."
I can keep my paws of this story until tomorrow (soon bedtime here!) if you wish to change something :)

As they follow Garrick and Imoen, Abdel's feeling of unease does not subside. "Oye! Where are you taking us?" He calls suspeciously to Garrick's back.
"My mistress Lady Silke await us just outside the Red Sheaf Inn, good comrades! Just follow me." Garrick says in a light tone.
Abdel frowns and share a look with Jaheira and Neera, both seem to be as concerned as he about this stranger. Khalid walks in the back of the group with a small smile on his lips, content it would seem, at the thought of their upcoming good dead of rescuing a damsel in distress.

OOC: @Aristillius Is this according to the "real" story though? I don't remember everything, but as far as I can remamber Silke pretty much screw Garrick over as well as the CHARNAME + party. Because he was shocked when he found out the truth of her manipulation, wasn't he? Or have you charmed him in-game and gotten that response from him? Beacouse I haven't tried that yet :)

Garrick nods and under the glowering stare of his mistress he lets go of Imoen rather reluctantly and takes a few steps away from the group. Silke then turns to Abdel who has, without giving it any extra thought, protectively positioned himself between Silke and Imoen.
"Greeeetings mercenaries, I am lady Silke" she proclaims prodly in a squeaky voice. "It's 300 goldpieces my little Garrick has offered you, no? Well, the task i simple enough. Soon some ruffians will come looking for me here. You must kill them instantly before they get to me. Beware though, one of them is a mage who is known to sway even the wisest of men with his deceitful words. Whatever you do, do not let them speak."
Before Abdel can reply, three men approach them from the shadows. "Here they come!" Silke hisses. "Be ready to strike at my command".

OOC: I thought Garrick didn't know about Silke's plot to kill the men. And sorry for disappearing, but my Dad went into the Hospital, and I had to arrange things for him to come home. Like a hospital bed and a lot of cleaning. :P Ever since, I've been taking care of him, but he's asleep right now.

"We're ready to do that job you asked us to," the lead man says, and looks confused when Silke screams at Abdel and company to kill them. Abdel gets the feeling that this woman has been lying to them, and tries to talk to the other man. This makes Silke angry, and she attacks Abdel and Imoen. As Abdel faces off against the woman, Imoen pretends to run away, hides in the shadows and backstabs Silke, leaving her dead on the street. It's over so quickly that everyone is kind of stunned.

Jaheira is the first to brake the silence. "Are you two all right?" She asks Abdel and Imoen briskly before she turned to Khalid with a clear "I told you so-expression" on her face.
One of the men Silke had wanted dead approaches Abdel with gratitude written over his face. "We must thank you sicerely for aiding us against that evil witch. Please, take this bottles of antidote as a token of our appreciation." The men turn and leave.
Abdel tosses the bottles to Jaheira and turn to Garrick who seems to shocked to speak. He stares at the corpse of his dead mistress and suddenly his face expression shifts from shock to anger. "How could she! That evil woman... Well, it would seem as if I'm out of a job. Would it be to much to ask if I could join up with you?" He askes hopefully.
Abdel snorts. "We don't need anyone else right no. Goodbye" But as he turn around to leave, Imoen grabs his hand. "Wait! Come on now, Ab. He said he was a bard before. Could be useful, don't you think?"
Suprisingly it's Jaheira who speaks next. "I agree. He comes with us. He will redeem himself by aiding us as long as we see fit."

@JosefineS Thanks, but it's all old-age related stuff. i.e. not really gonna change.

Imoen strips the potions and loot from Silke's body. Waste not, want not, after all. She hands Jaheira the staff, and keeps the rest for later. The town crier came by, announcing a reward of 5000 gold to whoever brings Bassileus' Holy symbol to the Song of the Morning temple. This catches Imoen's attention. "Five thousand Gold?" she says, her eyes almost glazing over. "That's RICH!"

Jaheira waves a finger at Imoen. "That will have to wait, Imoen. I gave my word to the mayor of Nashkel that we would look into the troubles there. We must head there without further delay."
    Imoen sighs but reluctantly agree.
"But Jaheira? I overheard in the bar yesterday evening that there's supposed to be a carnival just east of Nashkel. Can we go? Prettyprettyprettypleeeeeeease?"
Jaheira stiffles a laugh. "Perhaps, little one."
"Excellent!" Garrick exclaims happily. "I'm liking you lot already."

As they started to walk South through town, Abdel noticed a familiar figure come out of a house across from Feldepost's Inn. Firebead Elvenhair turned at Abdel's hail, and when he saw Abdel and Imoen, a wide, fond smile creased his lips. "Abdel!" he exclaimed happily, "And Imoen! But where is Gorion? He left with you, did he not?"

As Abdel shares the sad tale, Firebead shakes his head. "It's such a shame... Gorion was a good friend of mine. But while you're here, could you do me a favor? I need a copy of a certain book, "History of the Fateful Coin", for some research I'm doing. I would be very grateful for the help."

"What's wrong with that man" Neera hisses as they head for the Feldepost inn where Imoen recalled seeing that particular book. "You just lost your dad an' he sends you errand-running?"
"A bad habbit people tend to pick up in Candlekeep, Neera" Abdel replies with a grin on his face. He didn't mind at all, for the first time in his life he enjoyed people telling him what to do. He almost felt like the small boy he once was, running around imside the stone walls of Candlekeep nothing but worriless and happy.
They get the book and return to Firebead.

"Well well" Firebead says, "thankyou for that, and in exchange I can give you this book, and this handy scroll-case." Neera examines it interested, "Perhaps this errand was worthwhile after all" she says to Abdel.
But now Jahiera is getting impatient with their long stay in Beregost, even Kahlid stammers: "Ma-ma-maybe w-w-we should t-ta-take the roud s-s-south now?"

Said and done, the party head south through Beregost and soon the wilderness is all around them.
As they travel down the road, discussing the outrage of finding a boy all alone in the wilderness a few yards back, they suddenly hear the unmistakably coarse rasping of ogrillon voices. On their guard, they proceed carefully ahead. Soon enough they come across two large ogrillons standing over a corpse of what seemed to be a hafling messenger.

OOC: Area 3800, the note from Mirianne's husband Roe is on the hafling. Should we take them down or sneak around...? ;)

The Ogrillions stand over the deceased halfing grunting "Me strong, me squish little man to pudding!" one boasts, the other snarls back "I stronger, I can carry bigger rocks than you". The party watches as the ogrillions quarrel. "What should we do?" Imoen asks the party at large. Garrick, just catching up from behind hollers just a bit too loud "Hey what is the hold up over there?". The Ogrillions suddenly stop their quarriling and turns towards the sound. Jaheira looks at Abdel, who sighs, they charge the ogrillions.

    OOC: @Aristillius Hahaha poor Garrick!

The ogrillons roar with fury and stomp their heavy feet tauntingly. While Imoen and Garrick fire arrow after arrow and Jaheira hurls bullets at the ogrillons, Neera carefully tries to cast a few offensive spells. It all seem to have little to no effect and the ogrillons are now mad with rage and head for Khalid and Abdel with their heavy clubs in hand.
"I'll smash you!" One of them which has his tiny eyes locked on Khalid roars. "Smash you to goo!" Khalid visibly pales but lifts his sword to attack. Meanwhile, Abdel stabs his knife into the upper leg of the other ogrillon and take a heavy blow to his shoulder in return. The ogrillon attacking Khalid manages to parray his sword and swings his massive club at him. It hits Khalid in the chest and he is thrown back from the force of the strike. Abdel hear the unmistakable cracking of broken ribs. Khalid gets to his feet and with one quick look back up at the furious ogrillon, his face goes numb and he turn around and runs screaming on the top of his lungs.
    "BLAST IT, KHALID!" Jaheira shouts.

Sensing easy prey, Khalid's opponent lumbers after him, only to trip over Abdel's foot. Abdel finishes the monster with a blow to the neck, then jumps out of the way of the second Monster's club. Imoen's arrows find purchase in the Ogrillion's face, and its angry snarls turn into a screech of pain.

Neera finally manages to take the remaining ogrillon down with a few blasting magic bolts. As it falls to the ground, Jaheira casts one look at Khalid who is still running amok around them. She turns to Neera. "Do you know a spell to calm someone down? Use it. I can't get to him when he's like this."
"Sure thing", Neera replies eagerly and start casting a spell aimed at Khalid. However, just as they feel the surge of power releasing from Neera, she mutters "Oh crap..." And from the sky, a large cow appear and before they can react, the cow crashes down on Khalid, pinning him to the ground.
Neera turn to Jaheira and shrug apologetically. "Well, I did get him to stop running at least..."

    OOC: lol ^^

Imoen stifles a laugh when seeing Jaheira's stone cold look, Neera seems olivious to it. Jaheira quickly runs over to Kahlid and starts to summon nature's aid in order to heal her husband. Meanwhile, Abdel rummages through the ogrillions' belongings, finding a healing potion and some gold.

While going over to examine the halfling he mentions to Garrick, "remember that we're not on tour with your fabolous merry band anymore - be more careful next time" Garrick gulps, but Abdel pats him on the shoulder, "no harm done though, as long as Jaheria can heal her hapless husband from his intimate cow-encounter!" Abdel smiles, "Hey, anybody want steak tonight?"
