Um, how can it NOT be the influence.

    1) David Warner playing EVIL.

    2) Terry Gilliam at the helm.

    What's not to love?

Irenicus even has the cowl thing!

    Pretty much alike!

I wish the producers of BG2 would tell us about Irenicus' development!

Well, David Warner also played a fellow called The Lobe in a show called Freakazoid. He was an evil genius kind of guy.

I thought the influence for Irenicus was Bhaaldog. Am I mistaken?

David Warner also played Sark from Tron. Again with the cowl. Seems to be a theme.

    We see your veins, Lobey
    And your brains, Lobey
    Undulating, calculating, formu...lating schemes.

Ah Freakazoid, one of the finest cartoons ever.

A few years ago David Warner did a pair of audio CDs where he played The Doctor. I would highly recommend it to any classic Dr Who fan. He was awesome in the role.

@Bhaaldog: you know you've been playing too much BG, don't you, Jonaleth?

The OP's video is pretty great, but I can't believe nobody has mentioned this yet:

"There are four lights!" really should be a dialog choice somewhere in the game.

Alright here's the Lobe's song I mentioned earlier. I think it'll never be the same again after playing BG2.

The Lobe song needs to be integrated into BG2EE! Or else it cannot truly be considered enhanced.

I thought this scene from the movie "The Time Bandits" reminds me somewhat of Jon Irenicus. What do others think?

If you know of other possible influences feel free to post!

    To be influenced... from this?!

Only if they replace the dialogue and the battle on the tree with Irenicus with the chase scene that followed the song.

    "You'll never take me Freakazoid!"
    "That is one happy man."

I've seen this episode before, but thinking about it now...Wow he even sounds like Jon.

Wow he even sounds like Jon.

It's the same actor (seems obvious but just pointing it out in case you didn't know!)

Looking forward to David Warner being in Doctor Who soon: http://blogtorwho.blogspot.co.uk/2013/03/first-look-david-warner-in-ice-warriors.html

I do love that man's voice, and it always brings me back to Baldurs Gate.

Back to OP: yes, I think Time Bandits is a big influence, at least on the character design. It's a cracking movie as well.

Warner played Kenneth Brannagh's dad in the BBC version of Wallander. I caught a few episodes and they were quite good.

I thought the 'Armor' was very reminiscent of the originals. I thought the "out of armor" a little bit weird.

But then it is always great to see Mr Warner plying his trade.
