Wu Jen Class

A Wu Jen Class sounds like it would be a perfect class. It might make little to no sense from a fluff point of view, but plenty of classes don't. Instead of Taboos the player would have to adhere to, maybe ever 5/4 levels a Wu Jen would have to choose a certain weakness or sacrifice of some kind in exchange for some kind of new ability or power that outweighs the loss?

Good for an NPc... Why would a sword coast native have an east only class?

Why are Shao Lin style monks a staple of D&D?

They aren't. There have been editions without them.

Note, monk is not a class associated with a specific area in Faerun, so you could be one in candlekeep. Not so with wu Jen.

Faerun, however, is only one continent in the world of Toril. Being a Wu Jen would be a stretch, but it's possible. Candlekeep seems to be full of mages, and is a repertoire of knowledge.

Yes, but a wu Jen isn't a Mage, he's a wu Jen. Both are under the wizard archetype/supergroup, but one is the wizard of karatur, one of Faerun. If the game was set further east in Faerun, would make more sense. An NPc would be cool though.

And it would be hard to implement a Wu Jen's limitations, such as never taking a beath or never cutting his beard. In the end it would be just another wizard in the game. Modding the Wu Jen's spells in the game could be interesting, though. Fire shurikens for everyone, rejoice! :)
