Not much int the way of spells but a lot of nice arrows. It seems like there are more in the shops than in the original BG. Stealth with an archer can be a lot of fun as well.
Agreed. I like to give them entangle with that one slot, because my tactics are usually nothing but "root, root, root, other mobility hindrance, try and disorient...". So, you know, you bump into something, cast entangle, fill it with arrows and add to your moneys... I just fill up the other levels' slots with supportive spells, to free up a like slot from a more dedicated spellcaster. Or for the "well, you can do it, too" healz. Rangers are my dedicated caster's CNAs!
Yeah, with Entangle, the Ranger can do his bit to add to the first-round status-lock hell.
Hmm...let's see. Here are some suggestions for filling up those slots once you hit level 16, when they all max out. This is mostly just me talking out of my hiney.
1st: I guess fill these all up with entangles. Maybe a bless so when you do your "pre-oh god encounter buffing" your other divine spellcaster has less stress on their shoulders? It was always gigglefunny when Minsc popped command on some megacaster and they fell asleep for six seconds in the middle of casting some sort of obnoxious spell. 2nd: Ehh, I just dump slow poison into these slots. Maybe resist fire/cold? 3rd: I threw cure disease into these slots, and occasional cure spells or invisibility purge because to hell with those stupid dummyface mages who keep going invisible on me! STAND STILL SO I CAN MAKE YOU PASS AWAY
Crying shame they don't get silence unless they're Cleric/Rangers...
@SCARY_WIZARD - Slow Poison is a brilliant choice, since it can save a Cleric (who usually does the poison removal).
(Honestly it's the best thing about Dynaheir, she's the only Arcane caster who can save a poisoned Cleric, and poison is just so common in BG1.)
Minsc gets Command? That should be Cleric-only, not Cleric+Druid. Maybe his head is so addled he got confused about his spell list?
I don't know, it could be Divine Remix doing that. :x But yeah, I use Paladins and Rangers to take the heat off of dedicated healers...to great effect in Icewind Dale. Like, Paladins usually get the healing and buffing, while rangers get "entangle and whatever else they need to do".
Just because a spell is low level doesn't mean it sucks. As has been mentioned, Rangers and Paladins can take a lot of low level support magic. Why have your druid cast Entangle when they can cast Insect Plague or something and the ranger can cast Entangle?

I wish I could hit "Agree" and "Insightful" at once! What I like about entangle is that it, err, doesn't prevent me from casting in it! ...in case I have a dumb and walk into it by accident.

Normally the XP cap should allow rangers to become level 8, which would give them 1 first level spell...
And normally in the end they would only ever get 3 of 1st, 2nd and 3rd level spells... Rangers can't really double as casters.
