What Race do you play the least?

SeveronSeveron Member Posts: 214
When you create characters, is there a particular race you don't generally play, haven't gotten round to playing or one that doesn't appeal for any reason? Post you reasons

I choose Halfling mainly due to the limited class choices, and the ones you do get to choose has its primary stat reduced by 1 which isn't too helpful. While they make better thieves, a pure thief I dont think is as good as a Fighter/Thief.

While I have nothing against gnomes and regularly play them in other games (usually as spellcasters), dwarves have always been my preferred "short" race.

I know they can be very powerful in a powergaming sense, but I'm sorry, perhaps because I never played PnP, I just can't picture Gnomes in a serious adventuring sense. Cos you know, you see them in the back of gardens, not raging around with a massive battle-axe the same size as themselves.

I have similar problems with Halflings, but at least Lord of the Rings showed me how, with the appropriate equipment, Halflings can make a difference in the big bad world!

I play halflings and gnomes fairly frequently. I've literally had only 1 half orc character. I just don't normally have much interest in them.

I mostly play classes with restrictions or dual (bard, blackguard; thief/fighter, fighter/cleric), so I mostly play human and sometimes half elf. Everything else is rare, but I usually mix it up in Black Pits.

Hardly play any race other than human, elf and half-elf really.

Humans. I'm not a fan of dual-classing and I rarely pick human as a race in any game given the choice. If I'm playing a fantasy game then I'd rather play as a fantasy race, not boring old human.

I'm quite surprised how many people picked gnome, given that gnomes have something unique for mage multiclasses.

I've never played a dwarf, I just don't see any point. If I'm playing a fighter it will be dual classed, halflings get better thief stats and I find cleric/rangers more fun than any other variations.

I rarely play Dwarves or Half Orcs.

Humans are my favorites because I'm a dual class whore, then elves for archers, halflings for rogues, gnomes for multiclass specialist mages, and half elf for any pure class that the other races cant run.

I tend to choose human (can't stand dual class mechanic either). The only reason I don't is if my power-gamery instincts take over. However despite that I just cannot bring myself to play gnomes, they just look physically incapable of pretty much anything. At least halflings are more normally proportioned and look like they could be quite agile and sneaky.

From the three races which don't drag their noses in the air, I have never tried the Halfling. The reason is simple: The atribute setup makes it virtually impossible not to find a more fitting Race unless you have to play it RP-style.

+dex, but -1str and -1wis is what you get, plus +1TH0 on slings. Four classes to choose from:

    - Fighter or Babarian ... needs as much STR as he/she can get, so -STR is a bummer (tank=Dwarf, Damage=Half Orc)
    - Cleric ... needs as much WIS as she can get, so -WIS is not very wise (if you can ignore the looks, go dwarf, because a Cleric can always use more HP)
    - Thief ... might work, even though STR is part of the melee dmg and is also a part of the sling dmg (which actually adds the STR bonus fully on the slings, hence much more base dmg then even a Composite Bow, if you got decent STR)

The Con extra Saves (up to +5 on some saves) option isn't bad, but if you really want to go that path, why not choose a dwarf?
For the matter, if you need a bonus on a ranged weapon, why not play an ELF, who has +DEX and TH0 on bows and swords? Much more common swords and better selection of ammo.

Gnomes aren't that bad, if you can ignore the looks and the fact that they are forced to be a specialist in illusion. I personally prefer Conjurer any day, which means that gnomes are out of the calculation.

Gnome for me, but oddly Elf is next on the list :O

I mostly play as human because I like dual-classing, and I just have a natural affinity to humans because I'm human. I've played as elves because they're cool. I've tried half-elves, but don't really like them too much, because they're basically just humans that multi-class instead of dual-class and I prefer the latter. I've tried all of the shorty classes, but don't really like them too much, at least not enough to complete a game with them. I've never even created a half-orc, because I'm racist and I just don't like them.

nothing but human, elf or half elf. however gnome is the least appealing out of the races i don't use.

I'm surprised half-orcs are so unpopular given their huge STR/CON scores.

Maybe I shouldn't be surprised, considering their lack of shorty saves, general ugliness/stupidity and complete absence of an enchanting mythology.

Still, I love 'em. And that's what counts.

Shoot, just the name "Gnome" sounds like an insult, definitely better off with a Dwarf or Halfling (hobbit) if you want to be a little person, and then the clear choice is still Dwarf.
  • KamigoroshiKamigoroshi Member Posts: 5,870
    Humans.

Because they are the least appealing ones due to their sheer abundance within the games. And they smell funny.

I had no reason to play gnome so far. I don't see anything interesting in them.

i dont like gnomes as a whole, they are all too machine based and im not a big fan of steam punk i prefere swords and sorcery fantasy, i like some steampunk but if i had the choice its not going to be it.

Half-Orc = boring boring boring. Dorn is good. I just can't see myself role-playing a bloody Half-Orc. They're very boring, I mean what are you going to do besides some sort of Fighter? Nothing, that's what.

Gnomes are in wide demand as alchemists, inventors, and technicians, though most prefer to remain among their own kind in simple comfort. Gnomes adore animals, gems, and jokes, especially pranks. They love to learn by personal experience, and are always trying new ways to build things. Gnomes stand 3 to 3 1/2 feet tall, with skin that ranges from dark tan to woody brown. Their hair is fair, and their eyes are often some shade of blue. Gnomes generally wear earth tones, but decorate their clothes intricately. Males favor carefully-trimmed beards. Gnomes live 350 to 500 years.

Halflings are clever, capable, and resourceful survivors. They are notoriously curious, and show a daring that many larger people can't match. They can be lured by wealth, but tend to spend rather than hoard. Halflings have ruddy skin, hair that is black and straight, and brown or black eyes. Halfling men often grow long sideburns, but rarely beards or moustaches. They prefer practical clothing, and would rather wear a comfortable shirt than jewelry. Halflings stand about 3 feet tall, and commonly live to see 150.

I've never played a halfling or half-orc either, but I might if I liked a concept or character portrait. Dwarves, however... no. With the singular exception of Varric from Dragon Age 2, every dwarf in everything ever is boring and interchangeable. Death to all alcoholic mining vertically-challenged Scotsmen! (except any that may exist in real life)

When it comes to the BG series, I'm the same way. As I explained in another thread, I do it for the sake of my sanity when it comes to romances in the game. Still haven't wrapped my head around what kind of baby you get when you do Aerie's romance with a gnome.....

Much rather do it with Gnome thanks.

Legitimate answer, although a single exception is hardly devaluing my statement.
