Blogs for BG or BG2

rodneyandsteptoerodneyandsteptoe Member Posts: 99
Has anyone come across any blogs where someone has recorded what they did through the game? I suppose back when BG first came out, they were called walkthroughs!

Just wondered if anyone had seen any good ones, written from the point of view of the PC...

Are you talking about playthroughs? there's plenty of them on youtube

There's Let's Plays and walkthroughs but I haven't seen any journal style blogs. I think it would be awesome if someone did.

@Coriander Journal style - that's what I was asking for! Anyone seen one?

I've been roleplaying for almost my whole life, I think I'm going to do this when the game comes out. It might be long winded and entirely in character, if that's okay with you.

Be sure to post the blog address here so we can read it Jaysama.

@Jaysama That may be two of us - I've written blogs for other games (Civ5 and FM2012) and was interested to see if anyone had done this for BG or BG2 in the past.

I have set the blog up already (Hacking & Slaying in Baldur's Gate) and tried to see how intensive it is by starting a new game of BG...

Two draft posts and I'm only just leaving Candlekeep! It would be a real labour of love and I don't want to publish one now and have to start afresh when BGEE comes out. Decisions, decisions....

What does anyone else think? Start a blog off now or wait until Sept 18th?

I will! I've been turned off of forums for so long because of the inability to have a real discussion but after finding this place it's renewed my faith in our race for the time being. I plan to visit this place everyday, it's refereshing to see people exchanging ideas without the use of personal insults for a change.

Well after the 18th I won't have as much free time to read it :)

A blog on Civ5? That must be quite an interesting read! I absolutely love politics but in the real world it doesn't translate into entertainment because of all the transparencies that go on. If you talked about your relationships and plans for your empire that would be something I'd love to read!

As for your Baldur's Gate blog, I think you should wait. Yes I'd love to read it but for the sake of your entertainment I think it would be better to keep all of your nostaligia pent up and become released on the big day.

Other people are replaying the game to 'get ready' or 'get into the mood' but I'm the opposite. I haven't played in a long time and plan on waiting a bit longer!

I wrote a personal journal by hand for my BG1 playthrough (didn't continue in BG2, as it really was a lot of work). I made it mainly so that I could have a definitive summary of the game and its plot, as I tend to forget the details quickly. It's complete with small sketches and stuff, but I don't have it digitally. I guess that's the type of playthrough you might be looking for?

Yes exactly! I know it's a pain but, would you be able to scan it possibly? I would love to read something like that!

I'm planning on creating my own journal once the game comes out! It will be entirely in character, so mabey not for everyone.

For location details/walkthroughs, I always thought that GameBanshee's were the dog's whatsits...

    http://www.gamebanshee.com/baldursgate/locations.php (BG)
    http://www.gamebanshee.com/baldursgate/tosclocations.php (Sword Coast)
    http://www.gamebanshee.com/baldursgateii/walkthrough.php (Shadows)
    http://www.gamebanshee.com/baldursgateii/tobwalkthrough.php (TOB)

I'm gonna start my blog with the Enhanced Edition - Sept 18th...

    It will be at http://hackingandslayinginbaldursgate.blogspot.co.uk/

I like DSimpson's guide on gamefaqs.

There's the one on Baldurdash, it's BG2 and ToB. The character does talk about his own saving throws and level-ups, it's a little jarring. http://www.baldurdash.org/journal.html

What the hell? Why would he include the rolls in the journal? Haha that's intense!

@GRandeC Thanks for this - it actually reads quite well but its formatting is so poor, it is difficult to stay with it for long! I'll give it another chance when I have natural daylight!

Not sure if this is what you're looking for, but I always enjoyed reading this one.

@rodneyandsteptoe You're right about that! I just read a "day" or two every night before bed, it's difficult to take in much more than that.

@chickenhed Excellent, that is what I was looking for! Looks brilliant, very picture heavy (which makes it a lot, lot easier to write) but I like the humour there. My style would use some pictures but be more prose - this one is 85%/15% pictures/prose, my other blogs are more 50/50? At least I've seen that it can be done with BG...

@rodneyandsteptoe: I have a printed out copy lying around about a character called Elmonster. It is not written by me, but definitely worth a read. I'll see if I can find a link to it tomorrow and post it here. :)

When I was playing there was a journal of a guy who soloed a Mage through the game, and I wrote a comedic account of my character a Chaotic Good Elf and his ventures through the game...sadly I lost the story somewhere along the line.

@Kitteh_On_A_Cloud Is it the one @GrandeC found?

Ah, yes, that one. Seems somebody was faster than me, heh. Well, I thought it was quite an interesting read. Definitely worth a try. :)

Lolwut. Seems my phone messed up again while quoting. As I said, yes, that's the story I was talking about. It's definitely worth a try. Also, if you want to post your stories here, go ahead and create a new topic. Well, at leas I'd be interested in reading it. :)

Just looked at my blog that is set up to go on Sept 18th, with just the titles and layout in place - it's already had 9 views!

Lets hope I can provide suitable content for it that everyone wants to read...

Our group (played BG1 and 2 in multiplayer) kept a blog, so we knew what we did/had to do next time.
It was more of a list what happened per session though then a very nice readable story. It does have some memorable quotes we won't forget in a hurry though :)

@rodneyandsteptoe: I think I've seen a couple before, but that was years ago, so I have no means of tracking them. On the bright side, perhaps this post will help inspire some forum members to begin journalizing their plays of Baldur's Gate. It seems like it could be interesting, and I may do this myself, as may another friend or two.

If you like, I can send you a PM once my friends or I begin playing, should any of us decide to write about it.
