Baldurs Gate wont start anymore

I have been playing Baldurs Gate on windows7 for a couple of weeks and it was running normally.
Today i tried ot start it as usual and it does not run.
The startup window opens normally, but when I click the "start game" button it simply closes. There is no error message, the game just shuts down.
I tried re-installing and its the same.
Do you have any pointers?

Find the "Baldurs Gate - Enhanced Edition" folder in your documents location. Rename that to a new name and start the game again so it creates a clean set of files. If it works, you can add the files back a few at a time until you work out which one is causing issues.
