I take it all people here love quality RPGs, and quality games in general. So i thought about discussing it... The newest witcher title is AVAILABLE for PREORDER! ...though I have to admit that I'm sorry for English speakers who don't know the wonders of the series' profanities. You have the f-word covering pretty much everything. I grew up reading the series and it widened my vocabulary in many interesting ways.
*Grumbles* I really want this game!

Hey why does Ciri have white hair? I can't remember her having white hair in the books.
Note these are set to be full expansions not random bits of fluff dlc, CD projekt have stated they will be releasing dlc for the game, 16 dlc's to be exact, but those will be for free.
Also they estimate that in a fairly thorough playthrough, doing all the side quests and such, you will be looking at about 200 hrs of game time.
For a RPG, made by the only gaming company I fully trust not to screw me over, looking at their previous record, yeah I can say I was happy to give them my money.
I tried very hard to get into this series, after hearing praises of it being sung from every quarter of the internet. I even went out and read some of the novels...which I have no opinion on because I felt that the English translations weren't conveying half of what the author was trying to convey.
But I simply hated every minute of the first two games. Geralt is just an insufferable bellend*...some awful relic from a mid-nineties comic book. If the game would simply let me create my own character, then it would go some ways to alleviating my dislike of the whole affair, but I would still be left mucking about in the dull, dreary, and miserable world of The Witcher. I kept thinking to myself as I played "Isn't there some other world I could be exploring right now? One that isn't inhabited entirely by complete knobheads?"
And the profanity...dear lord...I understand the developers wanted to convey how rough and gritty this world is, but for the love of god...turn it down a notch! It just comes off as obnoxious and trying far, far too hard (maybe it sounds better in the original Polish?).
*that said, his wolf medallion looks rather neat. I wish I had my own wolf medallion.
Dragon Age Inquisition, was good if a bit mmporgerish, Pillars of Eternity was a great little fantasy romp, that I'm hoping will be fleshed out with future expansions and now the Witcher 3 has hit and OMF has it hit hard.
While playing Witcher 3 this weekend, something happen that I never thought would ever happen, I realized I like a game more than BG2, it's taken 15 years but I finally have a new favorite game.
The Good:
This game has every thing I want in a game, the world is large and fleshed out, the fantasy is dark, also it stays true to the books which is a big plus. The characters are interesting and meeting old friends and enemies is always fun.
The monster hunting is superb, I just love the whole fact finding detective bit before the fight, figuring out what type of monster it is, is it actually evil? does it need to be killed?
The actual combat is fluid, fast paced and seems fairly simple, but depending on your build can become rather complex.
The maps are huge!!!!! I can't stress this enough they are just so so big and the most amazing thing about this is there are no loading screens, I want to walk into a tavern I just open the door, I want to chase a monster into a cave I just run in. I never realized just how much I hated loading screens "the immersion breaking, flow halting bastards" until this weekend, I can see my self getting extremely frustrated with loading screens in the future.
So many little great things about this game here are just a few:
If you have to do a bs escort mission, the NPC runs at the same speed as you, also their path finding is not pants on head retarded.
Geralt grows a beard, which can be shaped, trimmed or shaved off at your local barber, after being shaped and trimmed it grows out again over time.
Controlling Ciri is not a completely horrible experience, it's actually a lot of fun. She feels like a competent character, this is no catwomen in arkaham city or Rouge in the deadpool game.
The hard difficulty is actually hard, I'm playing on blood and bones I think, because I really can't do iron man modes, but yeah it's not a complete cake walk like most games these days.
Everybody says "whoreson" all the time and I do believe I have once again found a new favorite insult, going to try really hard to incorporate this into my everyday speech.
gwent, awesome mini game, it's a full on card game with 150 cards ingame, pretty cool.
Oh yeah it's also beautiful and I can't even play on ultra, but yeah it looks really good on high, with some inconsequential stuff set to medium. Did set the textures to ultra though, so maybe that helps.
The Bad:
Minor clipping issues with some armour sets.
Pressing a button twice to pick up alchemical ingredients, it really should just be one press.
lack of interesting mutigent upgrades.
Didn't bring any of my items over from witcher 2, which is complete bollocks, why would Geralt throw away his amazing amour, that took the whole of the last game to make and also all of his awesome named swords? It would of been fine if they just had a list of stuff that came over from the last game and all of it was just nerfed. It worked in Witcher 2 so why not Witcher 3?
All in all I'm giving it a 9.7 out of 10, it's not perfect, but then again nothing is.
Plus they're dirt cheap these days.
But I would say it's worth playing.
The second one is one of my all time favorite games, combats a bit meh, if you play on low difficulty and aren't forced to strategise to win fights. Traps are your best friend in that game.
The third game is kinda a mix between the two previous titles, taking all the good and removing all the silly things "see sex cards and rhythm based combat."
But yeah I would say play the first two for story and just to see the evolution of the series, if not for that then play them too create your own cannon, choices matter in these titles.
Oh I forgot the in the second one you meet Iorveth and Iorveth is the most baddass elf ever written, I would say playing the second witcher game is worth it just because it's where you meet Iorveth, also at one point Iorveth and Geralt make a lord of the rings joke. I was so shocked I laughed, choked and almost fell off my chair at the same time.
