Normal AD&D rules for hit points. Characters gain 1 hit die per level up to level 9 (or 10 for mages and rogues), then a fixed amount per level after that.
In IWD2 and NWN 1, which uses 3rd edition rules, characters keep gaining full hit dice forever, able to have 300-400 hit points at high levels. 2nd edition approach, which bg1, bg2 and iwd 1 plays by its rules, limits this hp sky rocketing and is a bit more belieavable.
