PST / Grim Fandango

I'm looking into buying PST:EE - will be playing Semi blind, I've read up on @Tresset 's awesome adventure through the game a little  But one thing keeps coming back to me..

"Grim Fandango..."
So many things about the game remind me of that game, and I'm not even sure why. Maybe its the from what I understand interesting dialogue, multiple pathways, or the setting of a very diverse and unique world... Hell maybe its just Morte reminding me of the skeletons in Grim!

Either way, is it only me who keeps having some kind of link between these 2 games?

both are pure genius and true works of art unlike almost all other games so that's why they remind you of each other

While PST and Grim Fandango and entirely different styles of games, they both are excellent examples of gaming as a medium to tell a well-crafted story, not just an entertaining series of fetch-quests.

Incidentally, neither of the two were commercial successes in their time. They each took several years to gain a loyal following. Grim Fandango also got a nice remaster a couple years ago. I certainly don't regret paying full price for it, and would absolutely recommend anyone give it a chance should they find it on sale.

yeah, grim fandango remaster is highly recommended because of normal controls.

Manny and Morte have in common, skeleton.
But manny is eyeless and morte is bodiless.

I love and beat both games, original and enhanced/remastered.
However I can not link two games like you  did @Necroscope86

Actually, I always think of blizzard's diablo when I think about Planescape torment. Maybe this font is the reason methinks.

Exocet was used a lot during the 90s.

Of course, both of them uses Exocet font family (Diablo uses Normal, PST - Heavy).

Ugh. Exocet. Certainly not the worst font out there, but it seemed to be the solution of choice whenever a someone was told:
"We like it, but is there any way to make things look a bit more..., I don't know, dark and broody?"

And then there's that lowercase t that looks like a +. Whenever you see it, you can almost bet there is a nearby counter-example where the upper-case T was used in a similar situation. Sometimes it seems to have been intentionally avoided, other times it feels like the designer just selected the a bunch of text, changed the font to exocet, and called it a day.

Perhaps that's it's secret power. It slowly drives people insane once they start noticing the T vs. + inconsistencies.

@Teflon Yay Naval warfare! I still think that first too!
As a classic subsonic weapon, I've still got it drilled into my brain that it covers about ten nautical miles per minute.

Erp.. getting off topic. Grim Fandango is awesome everyone!

Same thing happened with the Dark Sun font. I never knew its name but it was everywhere in the late 90s.

    This one?

Ugh, that's Papyrus. It's like TSR got a head start using some of the tackiest fonts ever made. There's a fun page here listing some of the typesets used in D&D books.

I'm fairly sure the Planescape campaign setting used Exocet before all that other stuff. The boxed set came out in what, '91? '92? The overuse of that font really gained steam in the mid/late 90s.

The Exocet font was designed in '91.

Demolition Man was released in '93.

The Planescape Campaign set was released in '94.
