Neverwinter Nights source code

Hi, Beamdog devs,

Is there a chance to have an open source version of Neverwinter nights ?. Petitions like this one have been done along the years the game received its last update but to no avail. Maybe the code that cannot be open sourced just a binary blob could be delivered for that.
It's a great game and now that Beamdog has access to the source code is a good time, maybe the last time to explore that possibility.
With the source code, nwn could live forever.

I totally get where you're coming from (I'm a Linux guy myself), but I seriously doubt the contract Beamdog has for the game would allow them to release the source code (I'd love to be proven wrong, though). Even the older Infinity engine games don't have their source code out. They do however, have opensource implementations, like gemRB. I think the only way something like this would happen is in a similar vein. Somebody would have to make an opensource project that's basically a reverse engineering of the game to be compatible with all it's assets.

Hopefully if the project did ever become abandonware it'd get opensource, but at least it's under active development.

The closest thing we'll probably get is an open source implementation like this:https://github.com/xoreos/xoreos

Neat! I was not aware of that.

*Edit* OK I already love this guy, DrMcCoy. How can you go wrong with the guy who Kirk comes to visit and he's drinking bourbon, alone, in his office.

That project has been going for many years but seems to have slowed to a crawl, with no real end in sight. I think it would be much easier to just use an existing game engine for your own projects unless you don't mind waiting another 5-10 years.

You are an endless font of links and lost info @JuliusBorisov and one of these days I fully expect to find out that amazon's entire cloud server backbone is really just you sitting at a desk in a small building somewhere with a single lamp typing like a maniac.
