If the rep goes down by 2 upon Viconia's joining, it is 2 points lower than before, and that's the number that would be evaluated for Viconia's "happy" status.

False. It's only your current reputation that got lowered. You can still raise your reputation to 20. If you accidentally hit 19, you can quickly kick her out (+2 reputation, one of which is dropped because reputation can't go above 20) and then recruit her again (-2 reputation, leaving you at 18).

And if reputation does go above 18 while Viconia is in the party you can just kick her out and immediately recruit her again to reset it to 18.

im pretty sure even in the old days, in theory you could still have 20 REP with viconia in it, the only problem is that as soon as it would hit 20 she would leave

what happens when viconia joins your group there is a script that says: lower party reputation by 2
and then when she leaves your group the script is: increase party reputation by 2

so there really is no crazy exploit to be done here, the REP loss/gain is no different than saying doing it from other means ( aka killing innocents, donating at temples )

i think the REP loss is more of an "RP" sort of thing where you have a drow in your party and other people in towns and such may not like you harboring a drow so your reputation is lower in the eyes of the people, but when she leaves then your REP is increased by 2 because people realize you arent bringing that evil creature with you anymore sort of deal

although, if viccy is on your team and she gets chunked, then i don't think you get your 2 REP points back so there is that "exploit" i suppose, don't know why you would want to do it, but that could be a thing

If she leavs at 20 the rep does not increase, though (because 20 is maximum), and if she rejoins then the rep goes down to 18. That's what Grond0 was referring to.

But: I don't know whether Viconia, if she is kicked out at such a high rep, wouldn't leave forever, because that's what the NPCs do if the reputation is too high / too low for their alignment.

@Yulaw9460 You may be thinking of reputation that you can acquire by donations at a temple. That's capped at 18, with or without Viconia.

another thing to is once your REP hits 19 any evil party member will leave your team, perhaps this is what you are remembering?

Yeah, rep isn't capped at 18 for having evil party members, but having a reduction of 2 for having Viconia join ensures that it will never go above 18 and still have her in the party. She doesn't prevent it from being raised, but once it rises above 18, she will automatically leave. You can have other evil npcs join you at 20 rep, and since they don't alter rep on join (excepting Baeloth), you can have evil npcs at 20 rep.

dorn will also lower your REP for joining as well

what i like to do is grab him in the early game at level one, go find that necromancer and grab her AMAZING amulet, and then just give Dorn the boot after that

IIRC, there was a way to keep Viconia around if your rep was high. If it was 18 and your were ready to finish a quest, you could boot her from the party but ask her to wait right there. Your rep would go to 20. Finish the quest by talking to whomever; your rep stays at 20. Ask Viconia to join, your rep goes to 18, she stays.

Will she rejoin if your reputation is 20?

And to add to a post above, Baeloth drops rep by 2 as well when recruited.

You can always pick him up briefly just before entering Baldur's Gate to do the next part of his quest and then kick him out again.

Likewise, with Rasaad, you don't really need to have him in the party. You can just occasionally pick him up by moving one party member far away from the rest of the party. When you 'recruit' Rasaad, 'kick' the party member that's far away. That party member will walk up to you, but before that time, Rasaad will do more story exposition. Once that's over, the other party member inquires if you were sure, and just tell them you changed your mind, and kick Rasaad instead.

You do need to briefly have them in the party during the Baldur's Gate related stuff, but that's pretty short.

@Yulaw9460 You may be thinking of reputation that you can acquire by donations at a temple. That's capped at 18, with or without Viconia.

So, if you want to use a temple to raise Rep to 20, what you do is recruit Baeloth, Dorn or Viconia, then raise Rep to 18, then kick them again.

Alternatively, you could recruit all 3 of them, and only need to raise rep to 14, which is a lot cheaper.
