Elven Chain

I recall reading something about a tweet confirming the addition of elven chain armor to BGEE, but as it stands, the only instance of elven chain in the game is the one worn by a certain NPC in one of Dorn's questline fights -- and she doesn't drop it (I just tested it with a new character on patch 2010).

Is this intended behavior? If so, please move this thread to feature requests. I don't see why this item would be considered overpowered though; its statistically weaker than archmage robes, and only really gives blades and multiclass characters some much needed flexibility in the low-level context of BG1.

P.S.
I didn't do any research on monk items in BGEE, but that strikes me as another class that suffers at the lower levels. If no monk-specific items have been added so far, then maybe it's something to consider for future updates.

    I'm under the impression that this is a bug.

    I agree with that, if she use that armor, she must drop it.

    Bump. Still doesn't drop as of patch 2011. If this is intentional, please confirm.

    I'll mention this on the internal bug tracker.

    I killed Elimister twice...

    (Seriously the Stupidfier stun 25% no save mace needs nerfing, that + offhand dagger of venom made him go down solo)

    ... and never got his hat :(

    Elminster doesn't have equipment on other than I think a staff. Good example of why just because a character has/looks to have something doesn't justify the necessity to drop it.

    @bigdogchris

    I thought me wanting a pointy hat justified it needing to drop.

    I want the design on my character, give it negative stats for all I care :P

    I'm teasing based on the other comment about if someone looks to have something they should drop it.

    I'm a little disappointed at the lack of items that cater to specialties. I know balance is important, but equally bad is when the best you can get in a proficiency is a +1 weapon (some enemies are immune to these) or (if you're lucky) +2. In essence, you're forced to metagame and pick proficiencies that match the weapons out there, rather than the ones your choice of character would use.

    At least they warn us in the case of the daito (katana), so I thank the devs for this. If the issue is too much gold for all the unused items we would sell, make it so that you get next to nothing for selling magical items, or ratio it so it's the same loot value over more weapons (½ value, for instance).

    Anyway, it's a mild complaint, not a 'How dare the devs not take care of my particular need? I need my money back, and a written apology, and a personal lapdance from Viconia plus a new AlienWare computer or else I won't pre-purchase BG2:EE.'

    Disclaimer: Since I'm worried that my threat will be taken seriously and scare BeamDog/Overhaul, I'll include the tag </ rant >

    In BGEE, if a mob can only be hit by magical weapons, any magical weapon will hit them regardless of enchantment level. Its only in BG2 that mobs start to distinguish between +1, +2, +3, +etc weapons.
  • reedmilfamreedmilfam Member Posts: 2,808
    Yep. Since I posted, I was edumicated by @Tanthalas that my enemy did not require +3 to hit; it merely required Player Competence.

    I think it's some strange spell that my mages and clerics haven't found. Anyway, I got the bug again - all I see is a hand in the sky and the game forces me to reload. They really need to fix this bug!

    @moopy - it falls into the long list of great things that will never, ever, ever happen to me. I suppose I could pay for one and make whoever color herself dark gray and go white (ghost white) hair, but Fantasy 1.0 is completely incompatible with Wife 1.0 - it leads to hard crashes and loss of equity in a bad way.

    I put a request for this with the developers.

    It should drop from Tazok in one of the upcoming patches.

    Forgive me if I got completely confused here, but don't you fight Tazok along side Saverok in the final battle? Thus making anything he might drop completely useless?

  • TanthalasTanthalas Member Posts: 6,738
    @moopy

    It can still be useful if you kill Tazok first.
  • moopymoopy Member Posts: 938
    @Tanthalas

    Can't you not equip armor during combat? So even if you killed Tazok 30 seconds before the end of the game you'd still be in combat with Saverok...
  • TanthalasTanthalas Member Posts: 6,738
    @moopy

    Hmm, might have to try and pull Tazok away somehow.

    What? O_o no. why would you say your adding an item only to drop at the endgame boss fight. If you can even equip it at all, doesn't it then get lost in Irenicus' dungeon immediately on import. I think you guys seriously need to rethink this.

    @dimakey

    The greater werewolf is immune to all weapons that aren't flagged with silver.

    Some weapons like the flame sword from durlags tower are flagged with "silver" even though it isn't int he description.

    (This could be wrong, this is just what I've read.)

    So I don't think Tanthalas is wrong because I think the greater werewolf is immune to all normal non-silver and all magical non-silver weapons.

    @TiaxRulesAll

    The problem I would have with this if @Tanthalas is being serious, is that it is would be obvious that this was done in order to make good on the fact that they said their would be elven chain in the game, and then decided they don't want it in the game for balance reasons.

    Which would kind of be a slap in the face and insulting to the people that play their enhanced edition, if they change their mind and decide they don't want it in the game (which is the exact same thing as having it drop in the final battle) then just say that.

    Not entirely. The mob cre files are form BG1, and they weren't change to th BG2 system.

    @Sed what about this:

    Dorotea has one and one in the game is enough.

    It is undroppable.

    But next patch will likely be solve this ofr everyone's satisfaction.
