You may have discovered this thread because the Portraits vs P(o ) ( o)rtraits thread is now gone. To all newcomers to this thread, I want to say, "Hi!" and "Welcome to my thread!" As you can see, I post pictures here that I feel would make good PC or NPC portraits. I just wanted to go over what you will (and won't) see in my thread and to cover a few guidelines I keep in mind when posting.
1) No nearly-naked, half-naked or full on naked characters/portraits. I don't feel comfortable with an avatar like that, so I don't post them. Some characters are less than fully covered by armor/clothing, but these fall into one of three broad categories: First is Barbarians, since they are traditionally depicted in loincloths for men and basically bikinis for women. It's a convention, I realize it, so I accept it. I still prefer characters with more clothing and armor, though. Second is mages, who are able to protect themselves with various spells and/or bracers. Look at the arms- if there is something that looks like gloves, bracers or bracelets, that is generally why I have given it a pass. Third is other classes with bracers, because just about any class in AD&D/D&D can wear bracers of AC(X). Partial nudity, full on nudity and women who are sexualized for no reason I still don't post, though. 2) I attribute all art to the artist who painted/drew or otherwise composed the piece. If you want to use the piece, ask the artist. If you want to commission the artist to do something for you, even better- I am all for supporting the artist. However, attribute the artist if you use the art or pass it on as part of a portrait pack. The Starving Artist may be a cliché, but money is how artists support themselves- money for their art. Stealing from someone who may need that money to pay their rent or eat is pretty darn low. Support the artist if you can. Don't steal the food out of their mouths or the roof over their heads by taking their art.
3) If you want to post a picture or two that meets my guidelines above, please do! But if you want to post a lot, or if you want to post some of those pics I don't like, please make your own thread to do so. If you start posting pics that don't follow my guidelines, I'll delete them as soon as I see them. I am a mod, and I do have that power- just so you know. But I prefer to keep things friendly. If you object to one of the pictures I posted, please let me know- and why, and we can discuss it. I'd rather not have this thread get deleted.
That being said, welcome again, and I hope you enjoy what I post. These are the pics that appeal to me as character portraits, generally, so keep that in mind. Oh, and not every character has to be pretty or even "conventionally attractive".
@Akihiko Thank you! I just wanted to set the ground rules before I start getting "Where are the BEWBEES?" posts. Like I said, I'd rather not get this thread deleted.
