Nahal's Improved Alacrity?

TressetTresset Member, Moderator Posts: 8,268
I spent a lot of today playing around with Nahal's Reckless today. Learned some interesting things. Eventually I figured out you could actually use it to spam spells sort of like improved alacrity. I also realized that the risk seemed to take a huge drop when I had Neera under the effect of improved chaos shield. When she was protected I would say that about 50% of the time the spell I selected from Nahal's went off normally. I then thought that these are pretty good odds, given the cost of only a level one slot, and how the odds would only get better as she leveled up. Now I am trying to decide what I should do now that I have learned all this. I am curious as to what other people think of this spell.

I also realized that the random spell level is displayed wrong in game. When it says spell level increases by a certain number it actually decreases by that number and vise-versa. I assume that this is a known issue right?

What level spell is Improved Chaos Shield?

@tyl998 It is level 7. The only way it can be cast in BG1:EE with the current level cap is through Nahal's (ironic isn't it).

Yeah, I thought about preparing my entire level 1 slots with Nahal's...it's almost like playing with a sorcerer but with a huge spell failure rate.

Same here. Still thinking about it...

That's what I do when I run a wild mage.

Ring of Wizardry = Ring of possibly getting lots of higher level spell effects! :D

If only we could take advantage of two Rings of Wizardry like in the original. <3 Neera would go from being my favorite new character to my favorite new character.

There was a bug in my BGT game. My 'A' button on keyboard was quick-key for Nahal's Reckless Dweomer. And I could cast it by pressing A even when I had no NRD memorised at level 1. For as many times as I wanted. (or the resulting wild surge killed, polymorphed, or maimed me.) Other mages or even bards were able to simulate NRD by pressing A when they are selected..infinitely. I don't know if BG:EE allows keymapping or if this bug is fixed or not.

WHAT?! There aren't two o thems anymore?! Or are you referring to the smaller space for spell slots that gets full after one ring?

    @Tresset

You can't wear two of those rings at the same time now.

@Tanthalas Oh. Ok. One was usually enough anyway and I have two mages now.

They don't stack anymore. So you can't turn 1 spell slot into 4 anymore.

EDIT: ...he said, about 50 minutes late (This is what happens when you open a topic and then walk away from your computer for an hour)

Yep, there's still two, but you can only wear one. :| Total buzz-kill. How am I going to cause birds to erupt from Sarevok's armor thirteen times in a row now?

@SCARY_WIZARD You can still have a Wild Mage CHARNAME and bring Neera along for kicks. Bird eruptions for everyone!

Wh... Why, yes, that is a compromise. But ahh, Neera is enough for me.

A good trick is to drop two chaos shields in a sequencer, so they stack when you activate the sequencer.

Really? I have had wild surges that cast improved shield more than once at a time... It tells me they won't stack and cancels all but one of them (at least apparently so).

    Hahaha!

Although the ring of Wizardry doubles the amount of spells and 13 is a prime-number (not being an autistic nerd here...).

@Phyrax: Hmm. Autistic nerd eh? Odd coincidence that you say that seeing as how I am an autistic nerd.
