Decide my next BG:EE run!

I've been been through BG:EE a few times now and need help for my next run. I've narrowed it down to three choices!

Gnome assassin gets my vote. I'd personally go with a multiclass, but of your top three choices the miniature backstabber seems like the most fun.

I've played Halfling Barbarian in not-so-serious PnP session.
My halfling was super small, with too big axe, and he was attacking and biting everything around (I slaughtered people on Zombie Parade, thinking they are real zombies).
My friend played a mage called Gandulf11, because "Gandalf" was already taken.
Oh, and every questgiver had an exclamatuion mark floating above his head.

And before you ask: no, me and my friends weren't doing meth ;P

So far it looks like the Halfling Barb is in the lead. If I end up making one I'll put two points in slings and two points in halberds. Why? Because a halfling running around with a halberd is awesomesause.

Gnome Assassin FTW. Gnomes>Halflings as any fule no. And Assassin vs Barbarian is no contest.

I've been considering a Dwarf Figter/Cleric (Chaotic Good, i think thats what im considering for alignment atm), but its still up for discussion on my part :-)

My evil thief still have to clear Candlekeep and put Saravok to the sword (and anyone else i can manage to find and stab on my way to a bloody end :p

Already went through as a (Half-Orc) Fighter/Cleric. That was a very fun run.

What weapons are you going for?

Gnome Cleirc/thief ! Be sure to pick up as many shorties as you can along the way so by the time you get to BG City you can end up with all shorties!

How cute a halfling barbarian. Reminds me of those little ankle biting dogs. LOL

I like the concept of the gnome assassin : )

    Other suggestions:
-CG or CN Dwarven swashbuckler (if possible, use a crossbow and (s)he can take after Varric)
-CE Halfling priest(ess) of Talos (a midget who loves causing destruction wherever (s)he goes)

Just did a full tome run with him. He destroys things. Halfling Barb is a great deal of fun. Capping him in Black Pits as we speak.

I had allot of fun playing a Halfling assassin...By the time I got to TOB, he was a backstabbing machine.

Well, I've voted for a gnome but I would also consider a halfling assasin who has much more due to +5% in Move Silently and +10% in Hide in Shadows (if compared with a gnome) from his race and +5% in Move Silently and +5% in Hide in Shadows (if compared with 18 dexterity) from 19 dexterity.

Here's a fun spellcasting challenge that I would recommend:

    Four Specialist Mages
PC Specialist Mage (specialization other than those used by other wizards in the party)
    Xzar (Necromancer)
    Edwin (Conjurer)
    Xan (Enchanter)
    NPC Thief
    NPC Priest

And in this game all specialist wizards will cast only the spells from their own schools. In order to keep the spells as diversified as possible, you'd want to pick a magic school for the protagonist that is different from the three other specialist mages in the party. Invoker, Illusionist, and Transmuter are perhaps the strongest choices with the above line-up.

Or if you want your PC to be a Conjurer (per the PC's alignment, the familiar may cast spells from another school), Necromancer, or Enchanter, and don't want to two such specialists in your party, you can try replacing one of the above wizards with Dynaheir or Neera.*

Let's say the PC is a gnome Illusionist. Then, for example, at spellcasting level 1 your mages spell selections are restricted to, respectively,

    Illusionist: Blindness, Reflected Image, Spook
Xzar: Larloch's Minor Drain, Chill Touch
Edwin: Armor, Grease (Find Familiar is useless to him, since only PCs get familiars)
    Xan: Charm Person, Friends, Sleep

The specialists may use wands from the school that they practice. So for example, only a Necromancer can use a wand of Horror.

I have played such a game and it was nailbiting early on, which for me was a lot of fun.

    * Neera's going to be tough to use with this RP concept. Here she should exclusively cast Nahal's Reckless Dweomer, Chaos Shield, and Improved Chaos Shield. Mind you, using Nahal's she'll try to shape other regular spells. But she'll produce a lot of surges in the process. Not a suitable choice for a no-reload game!

Addendum: You could also play a gnome multi-class illusionist-xxxx, following the same self-imposed spellcasting restrictions.

I've got my speed runs down. Level 1-ToTSC cap in Black Pits. Make sure I stock up on items and import to BG. Speed run through the game collecting tomes and then import back into Black Pits for the level 10 cap.

Takes a few hours depending on the class.

@Kank Geez, that doesn't even sound fun for me. I am always curious about how other people enjoy a game, for me I want to wander around and talk to Portalbendarwinden and Mad Arcand, and generally traipse through every zone in the game before I finally get around to beating it. I probably stretch a run-through from start to finish into a few days of played time for each game. It would be interesting to see how little time it took me to beat the game though... both in RL hours and time spent sleeping with the party. I doubt I'll try it though.

Oh, I do. The first few times or so. I spent about a week exploring (again) on my first character. I just enjoy doing speed runs as well. I think I'm addicted to making characters again.. feels like 1998 all over again. ;D

  • LordRumfishLordRumfish Member Posts: 937
Well now, I do know how it feels to be addicted to making characters. I recently exported more than a complete party-full of CHARNAMEs to use in the Black Pits. The one that surprised me the most was a kensai I was rolling up for the heck of it. I didn't really intend to keep him, I was just messing around in the character generator screen, but his 3rd stat roll totalled 84 points, including 18/00 Strength. I wasn't trying for it, but the game just dropped it in my lap. I'm still trying to decide if I actually want to do a run-through with him or not. =P
