Transcending the mundane! impossible class combos and more!! da da da!!

So... I want to talk about peoples experiences with non-permited class combos and race combos as made possible by gate keeper.

I for example am about to start a playthrough of bg1 and 2 with a necromancer / monk... now thats a bhaalspawn

    My Black Pits run:

    Halfling Fighter/Swashbuckler
    Elf Barbarian/Druid
Half-Elf Ranger/Cleric (Honestly that one's broken all on its own).
    Elf Fighter/Wild Mage/Thief
    Elf Swashbuckler/Mage

The only "legal" character in my game was a Gnome Illusionist/Cleric.

I'm currently running through a Fighter/Wild Mage because I thought it would be interesting. So far, Neera's had about 10 surges and I've had 1. : (

The class feels pretty balanced right now, but in BG2 it will be the most overpowered classes in the game combined.

Currently playing a fighter/assassin. I sometimes also change Montaron into one, or turn Coran into a fighter/bounty hunter. That's about it, really.

I have a human fighter lvl 7 dualed to swashbuckler as my "illegal" character. I've also done something similar with a fighter dualed to priest of Lathander or same combo multiclassed.

What I wish was possible to "cheat" in would be a multiclassed or dual classed Sorcerer.
(incidentally if someone knows how to actually make such a cheat possible please share!)

I played Sorcerer(Wild Mage), solo, with level cap turned off. Currently level 11 in the last part of Durlag's Tower.

IMHO it's more fun than a regular sorcerer(except for loss of gold and instant death surges). I don't feel it's too imbalanced because of the spell pick limit, but you get massive amount of spells.

Also like the randomness of spell level a lot and the alacrity effect of Nahal's dweomer. (Killed Shandalar with 4 bursts of magic missle and a spell triggerx3 skull trap in just one round of combat)

I'm playing a Cleric/Diviner... was GOING to do Druid/Diviner, as I think that'd just be pure awesomeness... although in the cleric sling of things, I've added... particular... druid spells because i need them!

Edit: OH and forgot, I'm also an Elf (Resistances and Immortality FTW)

I wonder if half oc monk would counter some of the issues people have with the class? I mean, I know they dont get the benefits from 16> con but surely the 19 strength might help them out at lower levels?

(The reason Im kinda in love with monk is for role play reasons. compared to any other classes he becomes physically more god like, slowly sloughing off mortal weaknesses. It seems like a natural pick for a bhaalspawn.)

Hmm .... Monk / Shapeshifter Monk / Blackguard Monk / barbarian

    +1 :)
At least in originall (BG2) there was no way to multi\dual monk with other classes.

    not even with gate keeper?
  • PantalionPantalion Member Posts: 2,137
I seem to recall someone mentioning that you could edit a 2da to permit different multiclasses, but I confess even reading the instructions to mod BG with Weidu and the like gives me a nosebleed.

You don't need Weidu, just near infinity
    Although I haven't tried it, there's a released mod that allows dual-classing a barbarian

I loved cleric/wild mage. Wild surges do happen when casting clerical spells too. That was hillarious! Cure light wounds turning into a lightning bolt etc.

    Yup, there is :) ..
    http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/13700/release-ks-dual-class-mod-v1-1-updated

Included in the mod so far:
-Barbarians now can dual to Cleric, Mage, Thief and Druid
-Wild Mages now can dual to Fighter, Cleric and Thief.

Without the need of Weidu, Near Infinity, Gate Keeper, etc.

I'm an Elf Fighter / Wildmage / Thief

Dressed in Black (used the customisation of colours number 44B (I think... 44A is bright white) for total darkness of costume.

Made him look like a thief with the hood... but it did not look right when I put on a helmet...

Unfortunately, the illegal combo I'd love to try isn't even doable with Shadowkeeper. That combo is Thief/Cleric/Mage. I just think it would be really interesting to have all the utility classes in one multiclass.

    Can it do a ranger/mage?

    @Rhaegar
nah. Multi-classes are hard coded. You're pretty much limited to adding kits. You may have been confused by the barbarian multiclasses, but barbarian is basically coded as a fighter kit, so any valid fighter mc is also a valid barbarian mc, at least in terms of the engine.

Wild Mage/Cleric multi class -wickedly fun since wild surge applies to cleric spells too

Fighter 13/Bounty Hunter dual class -fight well with full extra attack bonus plus grandmastery for backstab and can lay traps like there is no tomorrow

Fighter 13/Assassin dual class-7x backstab meshes extremely well with grandmastery in long sword. Mix in Assassination HLA to bring a world of hurt.

Kensai/Mage/Thief - insanely powerful, with improved alarcrity removing 1 round delay for most spells and innate abilities, kai + greater whirlwind combo is simply a sight to behold. If you want to get even more obscene (with a good spacebar technique of course), try kai + critical strike + greater whirlwind + assassination combo. 700-800 damage per round....

Archer/Cleric multi class -specialised in sling + sling of seeking + bag of plenty +2. David on steroid and he can cast almost all priest spells. Mix in Greater Whirlwind and DUHM (or any other strength enhancing spells) and it's as close to chaingun in medieval world.

note: I used modified HLA mod and XP cap remover for Kensai/Mage/Thief.

Elven swashbuckler/Mage would be quite powerful, especially dual wielding long swords for the elf bonus. No extra attacks but u gain thief abilities with a fighters thac0 (or close to it). And by ToB u would gain UAI and basically be a fighter Mage thief combined into two classes

@readingrambo That's brilliant! Fighter/Mage/Swash! Fighter Thaco, swash bonus and ac, thieving and mage spells.

    It's like rollin a friggin Fighter/Kensai!
  • XavioriaXavioria Member Posts: 874
@leeho730 I don't think archers can attain grandmastery in slings. My older brother thought for sure they could but ended up finding out that they can't, and then when trying to dual to cleric, was very upset about this oversight.

    I want Ranger/Thief. Dual-wielding, back-stabbing, Barkskin-casting, animal-charming extra-stealthy damage machine.

Didn't think of doing that in the triple class, that's interesting

I've tested and Archer/Cleric can attain 2 stars in sling (and other weapons).

2 pips is just specialization. (0 pips: nonproficient, 1 pip: proficient, 2: specialized, 3: mastery, 4: high mastery, 5: grand mastery.)
  • leeho730leeho730 Member Posts: 285
... And that's what I said in the original post... "specialised in sling"
  • lDanielHolmlDanielHolm Member Posts: 225
Sorry; I assumed from Xavioria's post that you said grand mastery. Mea culpa!
