Psionics Unleashed

IllustairIllustair Member Posts: 878
I just found one of the coolest mod I've ever seen. I've always been a big fan of psionics. Just look at the screenshots:

Gorgeous!

Here's the readme page

Does anyone know if the author's registered in this forum, so we can ask if he plans to make an EE update for the mod?

    I don't think Kwiat is registered, no, but I'll go ask on SHS. :)

    Wait, what? Playable psionics in MY Baldur's Gate II? How come I haven't heard of this mod yet?!

    Hm, 0.1 beta release... Doesn't matter, I must check this awesome kit out immediately! >:D

    Really great mod. I had some problems making a Psion work in BG1, using BGT, but it works very well in BG2.

    Hi @Kaeloree! Any word from Kwiat? :-)

    Oh my, nevermind...I just found this. Thanks for asking him.

    To everyone else who's interested, here's Kwiat's response to Kaeloree: "Yes, I do plan to make it compatible with BGEE. I have already made it working with my copy of the game, but I still have some tweaking to do before the public release. I can't say now when exactly that will be, but hopefully soon."

    @fredamora

    That looks great. It would be nice to see that in BG:EE.

    Especially that Force lightning er.. Energy cone: electricity looks beautiful :)

    He really does.

    Don't underestimate the power of the dark side.

    Now someone will implement a Jedi class to the game... ;)

    An interesting idea, now there is.

    Force push already exists in the game, as can be seen in dragon fights. If that can be replicated, plus the force lightning, and (improved) haste as force speed, that's 3 down.

    How about a double-edged lightsaber a la Darth Maul. That'd be cool.

    Edit. And of course Force Persuade: a powerful charm person spell (unique ability).

    Force push as wing buffet would only have the "drawback" of always affecting an area instead of a single target... I don't know if it can be limited.
  • IllustairIllustair Member Posts: 878
    @mlnevese
    I think it can be...I don't know what mod was that wherein you'd face a group of psionics, and they can do single target force push.

    @Wilbur
    Ah, force persuade. How could I forget? Yes please. Double-edged lightsabers are doable also I think; that's basically a modded staff. But very cool as they may be, I don't think I want to see one in BG.;p

    And of course there is no glow effect. Any light saber would have to be a flaming weapon... I wonder if it's possible to map lighting effects to a weapon instead of being map only. You know the nice effect from torches for instance...

    Whether an opcode (like wing buffet) affects a single target or an area is determined by the projectile, not the opcode itself.
  • mlnevesemlnevese Member, Moderator Posts: 10,214
    Thanks @Wisp... Well it looks like it's entirely possible to do a Jedi class if someone really wanted to then... Countdown to someone complaining it would be overpowered in 5... 4... 3... 2.. ;)

    Anyone know the status of this mod for BG:EE? Or is it playable with EE already?

    @mlnevese - Isn't there a wild mage effect that causes weapons to glow or is my memory off here?

    It would be nice to have a status on the project, please.
    Thanks

    @AHF There is a Wild Surge that makes the wild mage himself glow... Just had it happen this week. I don't know if that can be applied only to an object.

    Jedi kits would be underpowered, just like the Soulknife was underpowered in 3.x psionics.

    @mlnevese - It looks like there are actually two of them:

    http://www.planetbaldursgate.com/bg2/character/classes/tables/wildsurge.shtml

    #5 makes the caster glow while #59 makes the weapons glow.
  • mlnevesemlnevese Member, Moderator Posts: 10,214
    @AHF Then if anyone is interested thare's an effect for that already. Now I wonder if the color can be defined by the script :)

    There is already a Jedi/Sith kit for BG2. I played it for some time; it was pretty comprehensive, incorporating a lightsaber that levelled up with you, and different bonuses depending on alignment.

    Good news for those who are waiting for this mod.
    Kwiat said the EE version is gonna be ready in a few days time :)

    One problem...

    After the Time of Troubles, most Psionic powers were lost. The only race that re-gained there Pisonic powers were Mind Flayers, and even they had trouble with it. Is it really feasible that the protagonist from Candlekeep learnt Psionics that easily?
