What other magic or mundane items would you like to see make it into the games (non weapon)

pklooppkloop Member Posts: 113
Things like:
Red Helmthorn berries
Silverbark Sap
Fog Rocks.

Or things like:
Mithral Bells
Moon draught
Bag of Boulders
Amber Amulet of vermin
Etc etc

What are some of your requests?

Mods: is it possible to create a few stickys like
Magic weapon requests
Magic item requests.
to keep these at the top in an easy to add to topic? One stop shop to put our requests in?

Well, only the Overhaul guys can really answer this one, but if everyone starts requesting some random items they'll have a humongous list on their hands.

I think its more realistic and feasible to ask for stuff like requesting that under-represented weapon types be brought up to par with the rest and trying to make sure that the requested item are balanced.

It would also be helpful if the requested items had a description. I don't know much about PnP so I don't really recognize most of the stuff you're requesting.

There all ready is a humongous list of requests...

    This is a non-weapon thread..

While you may not play PNP I'm pretty sure the devs do ;)

    Pair of Panties (dirty)

Description: Found inside the Golden Pantaloons. Naughty CHARNAME!

    Pair of Panties (clean)

Descripion: After successfully beating these underpants with a rock in cold river sludge, you now have clean pants with which to wear underneath your above pants.

Horn of Valhalla, who could not want this?

A fully operational DeathStar! *Insert maniacal laughter here*

Jokes aside,,, How about a basic Police box (Blue) that's empty?

@Wolfheart Piloted by Doctor Why? ;) I want Keoughtam's Ointment. Another healing item. Or Nolzur's Marvelous Pigments- anything you can paint, you can make (non-magical only, unfortunately)- subject to artistic ability, of course. Maybe a combination of Wisdom plus Dexterity?

Bracers of Mordenkainen’s Protection from Avians.

More seriously, I'm a big fan of the "Good God" style massively powerful and random artifacts such as the Deck of Many things and Wand of Wonder. I'd love the hand and eye (and head) of Vecna, but they are the wrong universe so probably won't be in (though his robe must have an interesting story behind its planar journey from Greyhawk to a shop in athkatla!). More figurines of Wondrous power would be nice, since unique summons are just cool. Something to allow taking on Gaseous Form would be fun but maybe a little overpowered.

For mundane items, the perpared adventurer is never without his 10-foot pole!

@LadyRhian No need to have it piloted by anyone :P Just make whoever examine it either totally ignore it or enter and then rush back out with the distinct feeling that the inside is bigger than the outside. Then again, its not like we don't have places that are bigger on the inside than the outside ^^*.

Hmm. I think an interesting item could be a first aid kit/suture kit/bandages - something along these lines. Consumed on use, next rest heals the affected character to full.

It would mean you wouldn't need to rest a couple of times to get your 100HP level 9 fighter healed up, and could help early in the game if you don't have a healer yet and potions are rare.

I'd like to see a collection of simple, useful "masterwork" items and relatively low magic but useful items..Some examples:

masterwork lock picks: takes up an instant item slot: gives a plus 5% to pick locks.

Book of trap disarmament: takes up a quick slot. Gives a flat 40% chance to disarm (though not detect) traps. for the cleric without a competent rogue nearby.

Bag of rats: releases frightened rats that run around setting off traps. One use, but effective, trap removal system. boo doesn't approve

bandages: with these in quick item slot character heals 2x while resting. Disappear upon waking or removal (so don't remove if youre sleep is disturbed in a dungeon if you don't want to waste them!)

Recharger: adds charges to wands (to a maximum determined by wand type.) Limited number of charges itself. (is it possible to target personal items in the engine?)

makeup: adds a temporary + 1 to charisma (+ 2 to thieves and bards). Mundane friends spell. x uses

Keyring: it's been discussed elsewhere but it's really an essential imo

Peasants rags: armor slot: sets reputation to 9 while worn. All party members must wear to get benefit.

nobles attire: sets rep to 14 (same limitations)

Vicious guard dog: similar to a familiar. Follows you around (or can be released from your pack or summoned like a figurine if it's easier ) but if it dies it's gone forever though you can buy another (and obviously no constitution loss). Follows across maps and fights your enemies.
    Boo doesn't approve

@Grammarsalad I made a bunch of low magic items for a Pen and Paper game. One of them was called, "Priest in a Box". It's a box that summons an Invisible Servant with the Healing Proficiency of 19. it will bind your wounds and administer healing potions to you (if you have a Poison Potion labelled as a Healing Potion, I can only say... "Ooops"). It's not very good, but it's better than no cleric at all.

The other one were Half Weight weapons. You only rolled a 7 strength? No problem with these weapons, which are made out of bamboo (for wood) or a titanium mixture (metal). Bonuses-weigh less, easier to wield. Drawback? had a 5% chance per hit of breaking or crumbling. And Indelible scrolls and spellbooks- the old rule was that if your scrolls or spellbook got wet, they were pretty well destroyed. So these were painted with a mixture of certain crushed berries and clear lacquer, which would preserve them from wetness.

Lenses of Magnification increased your chances of Find/Remove traps and Open Locks by 15 and 20% respectively. However, you can't wear them all the time, because your vision beyond a few feet becomes distorted and wonky.

A Book of Lore gave the Lore of any item when placed on the pages of the book, one item per page. It has 100 pages, and when full, becomes non-magical (but a great read!). Books of Identification had 50 pages, and worked similarly- one item's magical properties per page.

Scrying Ball, useable only by diviners.
  • GrammarsaladGrammarsalad Member Posts: 2,582
@ladyrian I like those. I was thinking about a lore book myself. I was thinking for a bg mechanic it might grant a static lore score or (probably better as everybody has some lore ability) a bonus.

I could see the lenses giving ranged penalties to attack and taking the helmet slot.

If they would bring the glasses that give you identify 3/day from BG2 into BG1 then I will be a happy man.
  • LadyRhianLadyRhian Member Posts: 14,694
@Grammarsalad Now I am imagining the lenses looking like those wonky faerie-detection glasses from Hellboy II: The Golden Army. :) I also had bardic instruments of various sorts. Copper instruments increase by 25% the range, duration or effect of the bard's spells (bard's choice). Silver instruments increase by 25% any two of those (bard's choice, again). Electrum instruments increase all three. Gold instruments increase all three by 50%, and platinum instruments double the range, duration and effect of all bardic spells.
  • GrammarsaladGrammarsalad Member Posts: 2,582
    @ladyrian I like!

The instruments could even be fluffed as "masterwork." The one thing that has always irked me a little about d& d is that all of the players are--absolutely have to be!--walking "christmas trees"of magical items.

It's too bad that no "tinker"classes ever became canonized beyond gnomish blabbermouths!

@Grammarsalad My big contributions to Magic Items were the Sword of Chaos, which is made of a piece of almost pure chaos. Every round, it changes size, color and magical bonus, as well as base damage. The color determines what it works best against (Red- Cold using/dwelling creatures, Blue- Fire using/dwelling creatures, etc.) it had 12 possible shapes, 12 possible levels of damage (from 1d3 to 3d20), 12 possible colors or combinations of such, since #12 was two colors, reroll to see which, and 6 possible bonuses/minuses. It was literally the very essence of chaotic, and the sword was CN in alignment.

I also did the Staff of Dragons- staff with a stylized Dragon's head carved into the top that could breathe as a Dragon. "The Spirit Wings of Khelek-Mor" a set of Wings of Flying that allowed flight 96" *remember that humans maximum speed is 12"* and made the wearer intangible as they flew. The Wolfskin of Ercolandrae was a wolfskin that allowed its possessor to take the form of a wolf, as a druid, but the color of the wolf was determined by your alignment. LG was silvery white, CE was dead black. The Staff of Ages, which ages the target 10 years per successful strike, and a wide variety of other magic items. I also made a sword based around the Sword "Need" from Mercedes Lackey's "Vows and Honor" series.

More magical instruments would be nice, or perhaps different instruments being required for different bard song effects. There are too many cool ones to choose from though; Rommelpots, viols, crumhorns, shaums, citterns, horns and bugles. Like I've said before compared to BG we were spoiled in IWD and I wouldn't have said no to more there either.

How about ioun stone's that act like a teleportation device. You drop one on the ground where you want to be able to teleport to and keep the other one on you to tether you to it. Would save a lot of tedious travelling and you could render it useless in magic zones to allow quest's to proceed as they should.

Good luck with negotiating the Firewine Ruins carrying one of those!

I'd like to find a full Deck of Many Things... drawing the "lose everything you have" card would be... interesting. Mainly in TOB :)

The planar enemy card would be a good quest hook as well.
