Hi there. Anyone know what the best armour for barbs is and where to get it early game? Best for a long time appears to be chain mail+ 1 pffft. Thx for any help
Mithril Chain Mail +4. Just kill Drizzt by making one character run around (with boots of speed) and letting the others range attack him.
Drizzt can be killed with so low level party. Nobody can be killed Drizzt or Elminister or Simbul or (rip) Khelben. This is in game possible, but unrealistic. Some characters are choosens of setting and they are finding always a way. For a this reason mithril chain mail +4 is not acceptable.
Elven Chain is the best armor a bard can use while still casting spells. It doesn't drop like it was meant to though because of a bug. You can still create it for yourself with the console.

I THINK they are trying to say that they don't think you should be able to kill Drzzt or Elminster in the game because they are iconic characters in the books. Hence, they don't think you should be doing so and making use of their items merely because you can. Or something along that line.

I'm going to pretend I completely understood this post.
After Drizzt's armour, I think splint+2 (Mail of the Dead or something like that?) is the best for a barbarian (same AC as the above mentioned +3 chain, but I think splint has better modifiers). I forget where you find it though.
There ain't Splint +2 in Baldur's Gate 1, or its Enhanced Edition. The best Splint Mail in the game is Splint Mail +1, which is why people are talking about Chain Mail instead. I'm well aware that he meant Barbarian.

My bad. The place I most remember splint +2 from is BG2 (I think Irenicus's dungeon?), but for some reason I was convinced it showed up in BG1.
Edit: OK, apparently I'm high or something. The armour I'm talking about is chain +2 (as @Quartz points out). But I think it does actually show up in BG1(?).
@TJ_Hooker Yeah, that stuff is Chain +2. I'm not trying to be Mr. Correct Every Little Detail, I get confused about this stuff too. Here, I think this should help ya out:

Really? I can't even pretend. You could give me the funding to try and I'd rather just buy hot pockets instead.
@Quartz haha, oh man am I dumb. I actually looked at that site just before I made my last post, and somehow totally missed that. Apparently I was just convinced to all hell that it was splint. At least I may have been right about it showing up in BG1 though.

Correct it is in BG1, Molkar drops it in Southern Gullykin.
... Whoops. Had bards on the mind I guess... Yeah probably either Drizzts chain or chain +3 Or if you prefer innate bonuses(which I wouldn't) splint +1

Honestly, the first time I read the title, I swore it said "Best armor for Babes." And was going to say Chain-mail Bikini.
But then I re-read it and was a little disappointed.

I wanted to create a Barbi named Xena. Haven't done it yet, but someday.
Personally, IT'S A GAME. Play how you want.
Gullykin has a +2 chain
If you want to cast spells you can use the Bracers of AC 6 until the elven chain is patched in
Edit: I was wrong, there's no splint +2 in BG1
