Planescape: Torment did alignment a lot better. You started as true neutral and over time your alignment changed depending on the actions you took in game. So, for example, if you lied and broke the law a lot but generally tried to help people you would end up Chaotic Good.

BG just allows you to pick an alignment at the start and, aside from paladins/rangers completely ignores it thereafter (with a small exception for some of the hell trials which can change alignment).

I see it as a denomination only, kinda thing.

I filled in that I was a Jedi on my last census form. In fact so many other people did, that the way of the Jedi is argued to be a recognised religion in the UK.

However I have no Jedi skills, have never attended Jedi academy and although I never try, I always do or do not as Yoda says... I reckon this applies to everyone else as well.

Sooooo.... Errrrm... What I'm saying is that next Census I am saying that I am Chaotic Evil and it won't actually mean a thing...

Yep... Same as in Baldur's Gate.

    ...

Hang on... Is there a sword you can only get if you are Lawful Good in BG2? Memory banks at full strain... R2 help me out here...

Affirmatory! There is a sword in Watcher's Keep that you can only get if you are LG.

I tried having a Neutral Evil character... It felt weird trying to justify saving Baldur's Gate...

Well, yes, but the game kind of forces saving the place on you and thinks your good because of you doing it

The city just misunderstood your motives. It will be their miscalculation when you return from the Undercity as Conqueror.

Baldur's Gate was actually saved by Irenicus.

A sword you can only get as Lawful good, and only equip-able by paladins.
