Come to think of it, maybe those 14 supposed girls are in fact biological guys who identify themselves as girls. This is highly plausible, as it is well known since the days of Antiquity that there are no girls on the internet.
I never play female characters, I won't even play games where that's the only choice. I am not a.. Crossdresser, I only play human male, i have no wish to be an elf or a midget or a woman. Besides how can you role play a girl as a guy... Isn't that a bit weird
...I didn't know you were a Bhaalspawn, then.
There's a difference between *playing* a *character* that's a female and *being* a female *player*. Some people seem to confuse themselves with their character. It's all pretend. Like acting. That's roleplay. Just because I might make a female elf character, doesn't mean I like putting on lipstick, eyeliner and pointy ears.
My first character was a male human Paladin but I was thinking of making a female elf Sorcerer for the evil playthrough. (Making the polar opposite character).
Never played outside of my own braincells if i´m not forced to do. In tombrider I had to play as a female but as there is no story and just jumping and pixelboobs in closeup who cares. But i would play an ellen ripley in a cool alien game anytime over a boring super hero.
In a way it is insightful. I never paid attention to the gender balance on IMDB reviews. With chick flicks, my guess is that it is mostly rants from guys who had to watch it because their girlfriends wanted it, and to vent somewhere.
The actual ratings between sexes remain "fairly" consistent.
For example, a staple classic like Commando, starring Arnie. Gets 6.5 from men, to 6.1 from women - the ratio of men to women who voted is about 20:1 (wow!)
Bridgette Jones' Diary gets 6.4 from men and 7.4 from women (a fairly big difference I think, on IMDB) The ratio of men to women who voted is now roughly 1.3:1
On The Princess bride, you again have less than half the number of women voting compared to men.
I would be equally interested in knowing how facebook activity compares between the sexes.
This is horribly off topic, but I think the "guy movie" (as counterpart to "chick flick") has died out. Not that action movies with explosions and car chases have died out, but they are no longer targeting the demographic of "male, 14 - 49" because Hollywood realized that women like those movies, too. You see a lot more action movies with female leads than 10 years ago, and that is certainly not just to provide eye candy for male viewers. Hence you have a smaller gap in the votes for an action movie than a romcom, regardless how many people (or men vs women) vote.
Aww, it makes me kind've sad that there are so few women here. I can only hope that there's a whole host of us playing Baldur's Gate somewhere, tossing fireballs and chunking enemies.

A game's full player base isn't really represented by its forums. For most games the forum users only represent a very small percentage. Seeing as everyone using the forums doesn't neccessarily answer the poll either, it's even less accurate.
This is highly plausible, as it is well known since the days of Antiquity that there are no girls on the internet.
I hope you're kidding.;p
I dunno ... most of the time even I assume that other girls online are just guys pretending to be girls. Heck, even though I know for sure that I came equipped with the factory standard female array (my husband assures me it's true!) and I'm *still* not sure there are any real girls on the internet.

Or to make things even more complicated, they could be girls pretending to be boys just to throw people off. I've done this on a few occasions... (Not this time though, promise!)

But what if they're guys pretending to be girls who are pretending to be guys? The plot thickens...

I actually think, proportionally speaking, that this is much more common. All you have to do is not mention your gender or correct anyone, and they will assume you are a guy.
I think the best confusion I've witnessed came from a female friend (she plays BG, btw, but doesn't post here) with a female character, telling a "u wana go on cam hun" guy that she was born female, had gender reassignment surgery and was now a man, but still "felt very girly". When the guy said "I don't understand, are you male or female irl?" she answered with "yes".
I predominately start a game with male characters, and then on my next playthrough I make a female character ( most of the time, DA Origins being a notable exception. I made a male dalish 2nd time after my rogue noble. My eventual female city elf was a very fun character though).
By and large it's the quality of the voice work that makes female characters fun to play. I adore Joanne Whileys (sp?) voice after playing Dragon Age 2 as female Hawke. Edit: this was the only saving grace of a 2nd playthrough... DA2 gameplay was so bad
In online games, however, my "main" is always male, and females only "alts". I don't want weirdos trying to flirt with me
I'm male and I always create/play male characters. Not that I like to feel overly manly or anything, I just enjoy playing with a male character. In another game, say, in Diablo 2 my favourite characters were Amazon and Sorceress and I exclusively loved playing with them. (And they are lovely and quite powerful ladies. Watching them behind their shapely backs for hours..errm) But in BG I like to immerse myself more into the game, so..
Though I would like to see Rasad's romance, as he looks like quite an interesting character. Sadly he does not swing that way and I don't want to play a female character for the entire game just to try his romance. I heard Dorn is into it, but I don't find his character to my liking and he is a tad too powerful, I think. Neera was fun, and I think her voice actress nailed it, but I don't think I would play her romance again in the near future.

But offline i play a lot with FEMALE CHARNAME.
Honestly, most people can't figure out for themselves what the hell I am, and even I get confused sometimes, so you tell me....
