I almost wonder if you are looking to have victory handed to you on a silver (pun intended) platter. If not, I apologize. But I hardly think that the challenges set forth are beyond the scope of simple ingenuity and deductive reasoning to solve even without meta-gaming. Sure, it requires a bit of lateral thinking, but then it is a Boss battle. As such, shouldn't it be a bit less straight forward than hack the baddie till the are dead?

No, I don't want victory handed to me. I want to know when I should expect to HAVE to scrounge the room for a usual weapon. Nothing prior to that encounter sets that precedent. If a previous adventurer's journal had mentioned possessing a sword the creature fears, or if one of the friendly NPCs had warned me that the werewolf leader was nigh-indestructible, there wouldn't be an issue.

Take the demon knight fight for example, where we are told about the mirror ahead of time and how it might affect the battle if used or destroyed. We are never given any indication of Karoug's special qualities. The game doesn't provide any hints that he might be totally different from his minions.

@Schneidad. The villagers will tell you that the leader Karoug can only be hurt by silver weapons (or words to that effect). I think the looney in the hut tells you the same. In any event, you are told what to expect. Not sure how you are thinking that the "narrative" isn't hinting "at his unusual qualities"?

I no-reload solo'd a fighter/mage/cleric and had hoped to use Melf's Meteors but (like BG2) they didn't work. Lightning bolt worked but would only strike once (in which time the GWW regenerated everything). Skull trap ended up as my only option. If not for cheesily blocking the GWW with my invisible familiar, it would have been game over.

Am I missing something? I didn't have to hit Karoug with anything special, he went down like a little xzart. It was the greater wolfwere that needed special weapons to kill it.

Karoug is the greater wolfwere (he transforms into it).

The only weapons which harm him are the following: Bastard Sword "Kondar"(you can find 2 of them: 1 on Aldeth Sashenstar and 1 in Ulgoth's Beard), Silver Dagger - Werebane(found on 2nd level of this ship), Long Sword +1, "Flame tongue"(found on 5th basement level of Durlag's tower) and the Sword of Balduran(found on this level of the ship in Balduran's desk)

Ah I must have mistook his transformation for me being awesome. BG battles can be very hectic.

Speaking of flame tongue, is it possible to return to that level of Durlags tower after having beaten the demon knight? I missed the sword the first time.

Yes, you can. You just have to enter again in one of the elemental rooms.

Are you sure? I don't recall ever being told the name Karoug by the villagers, much less that he required silver to kill. I don't think they knew who the werewolf leader was, since obviously he would be transformed when attacking the village. I could be wrong, however. It was like a two months ago that I last played, and that was amid the flurry of exams.
