You don't play with the BG resolution fix? You can pick any resolution, you just have to give it the X, and Y, of your screen. (Mine is 1680X1050) I usually put in like 1440X900 though, too big and it's hard to read text and stuff.
The walking speed can be changed in your balder's gate .Ini file, you have to increase frames, which kindof messes up some cutscenes, but in battle the frames affect you and the enemy, so no cheese there.
I consider these small changes, and the fixpacks to still be "Vanilla", but that's me. ^_^
@Ascerion I usually install Widescreen mod and BGtutu, which take care of resolution and walking speeds. But in that post I was talking specifically about a completely vanilla playthrough.

I thought that might be it, heh. Do you consider those fixes to break the feeling of a Vanilla game? I guess it technically isn't vanilla with even one mod installed, but fixes are like unofficial patches, right? What do you think?

Well, normally I don't get too hung up on whether or not something affects the "feel" of a game, but I'd say that BGTutu does make things feel different. I certainly wouldn't consider it a vanilla playthrough with it installed. Widescreen and fixpack would be bit of a grey area for me, and I would maybe install them even for a "vanilla" playthrough.
I'll most likely never do a full playthrough of the original vanilla BG1 again, but I'll certainly stick to Tutu/BGT runs until BGEE starts to catch up in terms of mod compatibility.
Seeing as the only things the EE really added were a zoom function i care nothing about and some fanmade level npc's, i'll stick with the original / tutu combo.
I used to be an adventurer until I took a pixel to the eye.
No way will I ever play vanilla BG again ( Unless marooned on island with a 486 or something ) I'm playing BG 2 now, I can only tolerate short play sessions. I'm not even sure I can even finish the game. I get a headache and eyestrain after playing for awhile... that did not happen in BG EE. Might just wait for BG 2 EE. I would even be willing to pay 50 bucks just for zoom. I got BG EE for 5 dollars... and then I spent 124 hours on a game I never thought I would play again. I'm not a real graphics ho but neither am I glutton for punishment . I loved BG etc when they first came out, but after all these years I just could not stomach the visuals.
BG EE suprised the hell out of me and I am grateful to have had the chance to play it once again.

Yes, and I thank you for that, SCS is probably the single most important for me. It is however in 'beta' if I'm not mistaken, which I take to mean I should expect bugs that I probably don't want to deal with. Of course SCS is not the only `mandatory` mod for me and the others aren't yet available to my knowledge.
I actually played through most of the first two chapters in EE. I do like the updated engine, but I couldn't stand not having the balance I'm used to.

The problem with the Widescreen mod is that we're all on LCDs now. So either you type in your native resolution and characters are the size of units in an RTS, or you type in a smaller resolution and everything is a blurry mess because LCDs really suck at displaying resolutions other than native.
EE's display method, whatever it is, is infinitely superior.
Oh, and walking speeds can be changed with BG2 tweak pack.
I vote no, but I think I'll play again BG1 if the monster spawn doesn't fully revert to the hard level of BG1. It was really really more realistic imho, and I miss it a lot. Please don't tell me to change the difficulty of the game, 'cause it's not the same. At all.

Check out the screenshots I posted here. Other than the UI, BG:EE and vBG+Widescreen look pretty much identical, at least to me (in particular, the tutor in the upper right corner looks exactly the same in both). I'm attaching another screenshot of BG:EE to this post, where the PC is a dwarf, to better compare against the the PC in the vBG screenshot. They do look different because BG:EE uses different sprites than the original, but I don't notice any appreciable difference in size.
I am only at 1366x768 however, so maybe what you're talking about is only noticable at 1920x1080 or something.
even after she's been gone for months, we continue to see samus' name. the moment you see a grey crossout, you know who it was...
I wouldn't worry about it too much. Apparently they've gone and deleted all her posts.
As for the topic at hand, well, the fact that I don't run into Neera in Beregost is actually a plus for BG1 I think. I realise the urgency of her situation but since even evil characters can't just walk away the encounter just comes across as being annoying (plus that "pompous creep" line is not very good). Like I've stated before BG1 is just more of a challenge than BGEE.

I'll continue to play BGT until SCS/SR/IR etc. are available in BGEE. Likewise for BG2EE.

BG:EE has revived interest in the first BG for me, even more so than Tutu and BGT.
