Do you make portraits for your familiars?

SCARY_WIZARDSCARY_WIZARD Member Posts: 1,438
So, a long while ago, I found out it was possible to give familiars portraits with editors. In the case of a Baldur's Gate II savegame, this resulted in my cat familiar having a Longcat portrait.

Does anybody else do this?

Here are instructions!

Keepers
Open up a savegame editor, preferably in a savegame where you have a familiar.
Click on "Edit Out of Party Characters..."
I think then you find your familiar, somewhere. Click on the button that allows you to fix up portraits.
Select the portrait.
There we go! More interesting familiars.

Near Infinity
idk lol

What SpaceInvader said. I didn't even know this was possible. How could you even see it?

With NearInfinity or EEKeeper you can assign a portrait to every npc ;)

What I would like would be the ability to NAME my familiar. Currently 'Cat' (or whatever) isn't sufficient. So I generally have to imagine the name. Which is perfectly fine as that is what this game is all about for me. But would be nice to have it actually show/reflect the familiar's name instead of it's race.

Yep, even familiars! The only other ones I used were the ferrets from BeastMaster for the...weasel, and a Disapproving Rabbit for the rabbit.

No idea it was possible :) Although I have drawn a portrait of my sorceresses fairy dragon :P

Agreed. Naming and portraits would be soooo cool! I would also like to be able to have familiars in multi, but I know it's just going to stay a wish... :(

I did not know that I wanted this until now.

    But now?

    Now I want this.

I rarely played arcane casters until BGEE, so I rarely had a familiar to name. But it would indeed be nice; I loved having a named baby beholder in Neverwinter Nights and it appearing as a party member with portrait and all.

I laughed at the poll results. I don't even know how you could possibly do this.

I'll also post this in the first post...

    Sure:

    1) Put the new portraits of the familiars you want to edit in the override folder in 00766.
(if there is no "override" folder create one)

    2) Open EEKeeper and click on the creature browser ("CB", upoer-left corner), scroll down till you find the familiar you want to edit.

    3) Open the familiar (ex: FAMCAT.cre, FAMIMP, FAMRAB, etc) and click on "Change Portrait" in the lower-left corner.

    4) Add your portraits.

A new familiar must be summoned to make the changes effective ;)

:D swplbsl that looks a lot like a kitty I used to live with! Except she was off-white, with apricot highlights.

I have Minsc-like portraits of my character with her familiar...

Here's Brianna with her ferrett, Vanna the White, and Oksana with Lady, her fairy-dragon...

I chose that picture because it looks like my cat.

Interesting idea, but I can't say I'd really ever feel the need for it personally. I so rarely play as a mage-type character and I don't bother too much with a familiar because I feel they don't add much of anything that's worthwhile for me and can potentially be a hindrance (at least that's my experience from BG2, I have yet to try them in BG:EE).

Why should I? Majority of the time I am keeping them in my inventory, since they are quickly becoming weak.

Get out of town, that's gorgeous! I've been looking for something for the faerie and pseudo dragons! I think for the faerie dragons, I'll use a WarCraft faerie dragon...

Sort of like how I used Virgine Arnaud for the CHARNAME who had the Longcat familiar.
