I approach BG:EE in an odd way. I like putting together fun roleplaying scenarios. I also like having an effective group and character. And I also love exploring everything and doing everything and seeing everything.

I'm not too big into hardcore roleplaying for a game like this. Its too linear for me.

I love roleplaying in an actual pen and paper game. I go to games like this more for the combats an story and fun characters.

On actual tabletop RPGs with real people, I play as an actor and an explorer, perhaps even kind of a reverse-instigator who enjoys the growth of my character the most out of everything, both mechanically and roleplaying-wise. As a DM, I am a storyteller, sometimes to the point of railroading, although I am trying to change this.

Baldur's Gate, however, is nowhere near complex and deep enough to allow any of those, as much of a great game as it is. So my approach to this game is typically to just become strong enough that I can murder everyone crossing my path.

I think I'm actually a mix of three: Actor, Storyteller, and Thinker. But forced to pick just one I selected Thinker because I like a lot of variety, and use different methods to enjoy the game in various ways.

It was difficult to choose, but in the end, I put myself down as a Thinker. I like replaying challenging battles again and again, each time trying a different approach or spell combination to succeed; sometimes even limiting myself to using only a handful of party members.

I like acting, but sometimes metagaming knowledge urges me to deviate from my character for a while because there is something very rewarding at stake. I like power, but not cheese. I like exploring, but not to the point of exhausting all dialogue options.

Other - chronic restarter, character/team creator, no reloader, (occasionally minimal reloader).

perhaps mostly the Journeyer - it's all about each characters/teams journey as far (or short) as it goes thus "finishing" the game is not necessarily a goal -

it's all good whether it ends in Chap 1 or at the final battle becuase whenever it ends it opens the door to discover the next great character/party and begin their journey.

Need to see more maps and tall buildings!

On second thought, I would change my vote to thinker. During the game, I'm concerned with roleplaying to the extent that Charname doing something opposite to original conception or alignment, unless truly forced to do it, tends to ruin the feeling of reality of the game for me.

But, when not actually adventuring, I am usually thinking about innovation and game mechanics. Thinking about how an already great classic game might be modified in order to add to its replay value and freshness so you want to keep rolling up and finding a new experience each time. Also, how this can be done without having to wait for mods.

I change my game world and use DLTCEP to edit shops, items, treasures, enemies etc. to suit my tastes and refreshing game play. ^^

I'm a mix of Thinker, Instigator and Explorer. With a sprinkle of "Real Man" archetype, or as you called it "Slayer".
But hands down, probably a Thinker the most.

@Samus - You probably write this with the usual player archetypes in mind, don't you?
You are missing a Looney *wink* (which is indeed very possible, as some forum member's Playthroughs displayed)

No matter what. When it really comes down to it, what make a game memorable is the plot and characters

with a pinch of "Thinker" added.

@Samus - well...that's true. But if a Modder does not have time to play his creations, he/she probably won't spend too much time on the forums, except for the modding topics. Also, Watchers' game immersion is not enough to dwell on forums. This archetype exists primarily in PnP RPG's world. Or does it?

And Trolls...nice addition as the usual "Insane Last Poll Question". (Keep it classy man)

If there's one thing I love about Western RPG's, it's the smorgasbord of areas. You can go right to the next plot location (The Mines) Or you can hike 100 miles in the other direction and kiss a dryad on the cheek (and pay quite the price).

Innovator would be a close second. I love sitting down and coming up with the funnest (it's a word) and most extravagant way to chop down a group of orcs.

Althought I am classified here as an actor, I have something of explorer or thinker. Sadly thought, many locations in BG1 are empty with only few things/encounters worth seeing and there is little to innovate after playing BG for years. Whatever, the game is still awesome.

Actor with strong leanings towards explorer. Luckally I always RP a character who has wander lust now that hes left candlekeep

Actually a multi-class with many of the classes mentioned but I think my most important class is Explorer.

    Actor , with storyteller tendencies.

I'm always exploring the wilderness far and wide in search of cute, feral monster lasses! ♥

I'm probably equal parts power gamer and explorer. And I don't think powergaming necessarily constitutes using cheese. In my mind, it mostly just means that you put a premium on combat effectiveness for a character.

Hard choice between actor and explorer.
  • GandalfPortraitGuyGandalfPortraitGuy Member Posts: 206
In the end, Actor was the closest.

Fingers crossed for more wilderness areas in BG2:EE! :)

Now that would not only be awesome, but doable under the contract. This would make me a very happy mage.

    Cool poll!
Guess Im an actor, but not a hardcore RPer. Also nearly chose "storyteller".

Hey! as a proud half-orc player I take offense to that last option.

when i play role playing games, i am the character. if there were food in bg, i would take it to eat wheather i need to or not! i do on role playing games that have it, and i can't play them in front of others because it makes me feel weird when i am playing elder scrolls with a bunch of food and resting every night even though i don't need to. i like that bg actually fatigues you so that you want to sleep. i just love that you can play an rpg however you want! :)
