The remainder could be awarded randomly to reduce the unevenness, I guess. :)

I basically came in here to suggest this.

It's noticeable in custom parties where everyone starts at the same XP that the people towards the front get proportionately more XP over time.

There are two ways to fix this:
1 - Make all XP awards multiples of 12, since 12 divides evenly into many popular party sizes; or
2 - Divide XP by party size, and assign points in remainder randomly.

    (2) is probably easier for the developers, while (1) is available to modders.

    Edit: math is hard

    30/4=7.5

Personally, characters should get Xp for killing things.

They could even get xp for completing quests...

How about spicing things up by awarding xp FOR NOT KILLING things...
The forests of the sword coast would get to have more bears and squirrels running around...

In BG I am a sort of anti Eco warrior murdering everything...

    Thanks for the correction.

    Guess it's either 12, 30 or 60, then.

12 ignores parties of size 5.
30 ignores parties of size 4.
60 is large relative to a kobold.

I think this would be good.
