Stat tomes in BG2

What are your opinions on the BG stat tomes carrying over for the BG2 NPCs? If I give the strength tome to Dorn or the intelligence tome to Neera should their new stats carry over? Would you change them with shadowkeeper?

Thanks!

I wish they did, but since BG2 NPCs from BG1 don't carry over in terms of class build I doubt this will be implemented. I still say I prefer Imoen as a thief.

That being said, I would not call it cheating to use shadowkeeper to give NPCs from BG1 the stats they had in the first game

I usually change them with Shadowkeeper, wouldn't mind if this were carried over but considering the mechanics of exporting, that might be tricky to do so I'm not bothered if it's not implemented.

I think this is something that should be in the EE version of BG2, shouldn't be too hard for Overhaul to make stats, weapon prof., theif skills, etc. from BG1 carry over to BG2.

That's exactly what I was thinking but I guess only time will tell.

I always open up my saved game with Shadowkeeper in BG1 and edit the BG2 NPC's to match. I feel this enhances the continuity.

I pretty much only use the tomes on Charname anyway, so I don't think it is that big a deal. I do think that carrying over stats/skills/proficiencies into BG2:EE might be more effort than benefit.

They could probably just co-op whatever scripting vanilla ToB uses to export your party at the end of SoA.

I'll just Trainer all the spells, experience values, ability score boosts, and what-have-yous to their BG EE values like I did last time. No chance in hell I'm giving up cloudkill on Neera!

I think it all depends on what gives you most enjoyment in the game. I often accept the way they start off the characters in BG2 because I think they had to rebalance the game, and because I think time has passed since BG1 and people change overtime. But, if a certain stat or ability seems essential to you and its absence would spoil your depiction of the character then for your sheer enjoyment and satisfaction make the adjustment with Shadowkeeper.

Totally. When you come right down to it, this is a game, so if you're not enjoying it, you're doing it wrong. If what you find enjoyable is curb-stomping BG1 with your level 40 ToB character, than by god, that's what you should do.

Honestly I think those tomes shouldn't have been in the game in the first place. Carrying them over to BG2 makes it kind of.. so so...

I mean, by equipping a few items my early game SoA Cleric/Mage is now 18/00, 19, 19, 21, 20, 18 unbuffed and I haven't even cheated or obtained the good items yet...

Agreed. I limited myself to one Intellect tome so my mage could have 19 INT and memorize (almost) all of the spells. Otherwise I made do with a roll of 94. Hey, I'm the child of a god, and Saravok and Imoen get inflated stats, why not me?

-> Hey, I'm the child of a god, so this is completely reasonable <-

Exactly what I keep telling myself ^^

Well it's not really hard to create a 100+ score character with Ctrl+8.
I think average roll score is somewhere around 80 and with that in mind the books is kind of fine.

Huge plot hole if you keep Imoen as a thief though.

And how is that not super lame?

Minsc get a +1 in both dexterity and constitution.
Jaheira gets + 3 in dexterity.
    Viconia gets + 1 in constitution AND + 3 (!) in wisdom.
Edwin gets + 1 in strength but a - 1 in wisdom (confused over that he never got to kill Dynaheir I guess)

I rather like the BG2 NPCs as they are...

Since VIconia gets a super buff I'm not surprised.

Hm, what if they instead gave us the opportunity to raise the NPC stats instead of focusing on the Bhaalspawn completely?

I think that adding BG2 and Throne of bhaal into the EE as first screen options, (where it asks if you want the tutorial bg1 or the black pits) would help eliminate the reoccurance of bugs and allow for the file transfer system to hold easier. The passage of time and adventure could account for npcs with newer stats, and a variable script could easily keep track as a globalvariable for TomeSTRNPC# with 0 being a player character and each npc having been given a number. seems simple enough as its a variable idea that could allow greater continuity between say keeping dorn from bg1-2 with his quest lines. if you did or didnt take SPOILER during another quest and if you say did other misc. ingame additions. Possibly adding flavour to the actual BG2EE for quests done and not done etc.

Thieves can use certain wands that's what I said then was rebuffed by "but the Cowled Wizards don't care about wants only about casting magic! They know the difference! You can run around using wands and spell like abilities all you want and the Cowls don't care!"
